The mere mention of encryption can evoke images of lonely geeks or government operatives hunched over their potentially earth shattering work. Discussions of public and private keys can send even experienced computer users into a fundamental state of distress, but it doesn't have to be that way. Advanced Encryption Package Professional is a tool that can, at the very least, ease some of the pain of working with encrypted messages and files.
The program itself is decent-looking but quirky. It has a theme engine that works well, though the existence of the theme engine is both welcomed and perplexing, as an app of this size should hardly need such a thing. The major features, such as Encryption, Decryption, and self-decrypting file creation work well, as do some unexpected features such as file Delete/Wipe, Zip management, encryption key management, and file e-mailing. There are better tools available than the included "Privacy Manager," but the Clipboard Encryptor is a great addition that complements the main program. The only actual error encountered was that a self-decrypting executable we created didn't delete itself as we specified after completing self-decryption.
There were no stability issues, and our testing never bumped up against the 30-day trial's functional limitations. Installation was easy, but it did create Start menu entries without asking, and uninstallation left behind theme-related folders and files in the install directory. Ultimately, if you use (or need to start using) encryption regularly, Advanced Encryption Package Professional would be a great tool to help make things just a little easier.
Publisher's description
From SecureAction Research :Typically you encrypt files because you don't want others to see them, but sometimes you want to send someone an encrypted file. Most if not all encryption programs allow you to do so--they vary, however, in terms of how difficult the process is. AEP PRO most noteworthy feature may be its flexibility: Not only can you encrypt files for your own protection but you can easily create "self-decrypting" versions of your files that others can run without needing AEP PRO or any other software. The program includes a file shredder that wipes the contents of your original files. It also integrates nicely with Windows Explorer, allowing you to use Explorer's context menus and avoid having another window clutter your screen. It also uses military grade encryption for protecting your private files. Program includes 17(!) undustrial encryption algorithms: DESX, BLOWFISH, RIJNDAEL(AES), CAST, 3-DES, RC2, DIAMOND2, TEA, SAFER, 3-WAY, GOST, SHARK, SQUARE, SKIPJACK, TWOFISH, MARS, SERPENT. The latest version has support for RSA algorithm and Public-Private Key cryptography. One key is kept secret and is referred to as the private key while the other is made available to others and is called the public key since anyone can access this key. These keys are large mathematically-related numbers derived from algorithms that form a unique pair. Either key may be used to encrypt a message, but only the other corresponding key is used to decrypt the message. AEP Command Line Tool has support for all RSA features.
