PC users often upgrade their hardware to get the most out of new games. Many Mac users, on the other hand, view Photoshop as the litmus test for hardware performance. While technically an image editor, this program contains an endless selection of drawing tools, filters, color adjustment capabilities, and other tools designed to manipulate images in almost any way. Photoshop incorporates raster and vector drawing tools, allowing you to work with bitmap images and scalable graphics at the same time.
Though it's an excellent software tool, the trial version demands a lot of time to download, a lot of hard drive space, and a lot of RAM for rendering and other heavy tasks. In addition, the trial version is save-, print-, and export-disabled, which limits your ability to assess this expensive product. Photoshop also has a high learning curve, so great results take time and training.

Version: Adobe Photoshop CS3
"You won't find a better image editor."
Pros: Limitless possibilities of image manipulation. You can do all the basics that you can do with any other image program. But you can study this program for years to learn to use all of its advanced features. People use this program to make certain movies. This is THE image editing program. Accept no less.
Cons: My only complaint would be that for novices it is kind of difficult to figure out. Use the tutorials and look for some explanations at different blog sites.

Version: Adobe Photoshop CS3
"Outstanding but overpriced photo editor"
Pros: Photoshop is not only the industry standard for professional photographers, but also many budding enthusiasts.
Almost anything you can imagine doing to a photo - you can do with this.
Cons: Not very intuitive
Very expensive
90% of it's features can be found in Corel's PaintShop Pro X2 - for $49 - $99

Version: Adobe Photoshop CS3
Pros: Virtually anything I need to do graphically, Photoshop can do. I like the fact that this is a program I can grow into as my needs expand.
It's overkill however for most people - Photoshop Elements will do most of what the average person needs for a fraction of the price. I started out with an early version of Photoshop Elements years ago and graduated to full Photoshop when my needs outgrew Elements
There are ways around paying full price. When I bought Photoshop the first time, version 7, I bought it for just $85 because it was two versions behind the then current version. Adobe has an excellent policy of allowing $169 upgrades to full Photoshop from any prior version, so I could have upgraded at any time to the current version.
Adobe also offers steep educational discounts for teachers and students, which allows buying it at far below the retail price.
Cons: I don't really have any complaints. It's complex software that can be intimidating to learn. I recommend firs time users take on online class to help come up to speed quickly, but I have no complaints about the software itself.
