- "Trial for dedicated PDF users"
- Version reviewed: Adobe Acrobat Professional 9
Adobe's Acrobat PDF creator is the industry standard, and with good reason. A comprehensive list of powerful tools, combined with a work environment capable of handling huge files and a well-designed interface make it the go-to program for PDFs.
Some of the newer features that impressed us include a range of annotation options; password and encryption for security; several signature preferences for making digital documents more official; automatically recognizing form fields; the ability to download entire Web sites and import them as PDFs; support for complex AutoCAD drawings; and a well-designed icon-based wizard to help the user figure out how to get it all done. You won't find any talking paper clips here.
Surprisingly, the biggest drawback isn't Acrobat's high price tag. To download the trial version, the user must register and fill out a survey at Adobe's Web site. Then you must wait for an e-mail to arrive with a link to the installer, which weighs in at 269MB and takes about 15 minutes to install.
All told, the process takes a half hour and is counterintuitive to the point of a trial version. If you need Acrobat's power, it's definitely worth a test drive. If you're a casual or occasional PDF creator, the unwieldy trial isn't likely worth the extra time and effort.

Version: Adobe Acrobat Professional 9
Pros: It has tons of features.
Cons: A lot of features that an average person like me won't use. The price is way too HIGH. The software takes a ton of space. When downloaded and installed Nero takes over 500 MB. I am sure when downloaded and installed this products take about 650MB
Summary: Not worth $450.

"Not quite ready for the market, not stable yet."
Pros: Great when it works and it has all of the bells and whistles.
Cons: I've tried installing Acrobat on 3 different machines and get the same result every time. After a few minutes of running I get an unexpected error and I'm promted to send the information to Microsoft.
Summary: Don't buy this software yet. Wait until they have everything fixed. You're better off w/ version 8.
