Version: Active Undelete 5.1.01
"tried the demo, seems thorough"
Pros: I ran it on a full strength sector search which found alot of stuff that I had deleted. If I ever need to retrieve lossed data, this product looks like it can do the job.
Cons: The interface can be somewhat confusing and takes a little time to figure out. The interface could be a little more streamlined for us dummies.
The demo allows you only to recover a 64K or less file, which in itself is not a bad thing for a demo. You still get to view all that is potentially recoverable if you buy the product.

Version: Active Undelete 5.1.01
"Excellent! Recovered all my files from a bad MBR"
Pros: Recovered my files when I thought all was lost!
My data drive, with all my personal files including about 10Gb of photos, croaked, saying the Master Boot Record (MBR) couldn't be read. I tried FDISK /MBR, no go. A techie friend tried working on it, no luck.
Then I tried Active@Undelete, and it found ALL my directories and files! It then lets you recover them to another drive. Strangely, it will let you recover to the same drive, which doesn't make sense.
This is WELL WORTH the $40 price.
Cons: Takes a long time to do a low-level scan - 6 hours for my 120Gb disk. If you've ever changed the drive's partition sizes, the results can be a little confusing at first. You have to dig through them to find the directories your files are in.
But it FOUND them, that's what matters!

"A total waste of time and money"
Pros: None
Cons: Everything.
After having just overwritten a word document with an identically named file from another disk, I hoped that this tool would be able to recover the old version successfully. Unfortunately not. What a waste of time and money.
Do NOT buy this product!!

Version: Active Undelete 5.1.01
Pros: I recovered files it found after at least 4 reformats! Didn't think I would get anything, but I was pleasantly surprised. This was the best money I spent on a disk utility.
Cons: None.
