Acronis True Image remains one of the most user-friendly and powerful applications in its class. Unlike most other disk-image utilities, you can perform all the tasks without exiting Windows. However, if your system can't boot, Acronis True Image can be launched from a CD or a disk. A scheduler and an incremental method (saving only sectors changed since the last backup) minimize the fuss of backing up your system so you can perform it every day. Another great feature, Secure Storage, lets you make images inaccessible from Windows so they can't be damaged. The program works at a decent speed, 1GB in five minutes, and doesn't considerably affect system speed. Acronis True Image supports all features necessary to a home user: compression, password protection, the ability to split an image into several volumes, and the ability to move your system to another hard drive. This new version offers an option that lets you specify which files and folders you'd like to archive. You can browse images as if they were usual hard drives and extract only necessary files. The program's wizard-based instructive interface suits inexperienced users. Acronis True Image doesn't offer professional features, such as installing an image on multiple PCs at once, but we consider it a must-have for home users who want to safeguard their systems.Publisher's description

Version: Acronis True Image 9
"The VERY BEST SOFTWARE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!!"
Pros: I started using Acronis 8 about 9 months ago. I used Norton Ghost for several Years Prior to experiencing Acronis with limited results. Acronis 8 never ever once failed which finally gave me complete confidence of having a back up in place ready to go. I was leary on trying 9 as using Acronis 8 was perfect. I tried Acronis 9 trial first and I had a little trouble getting it to work as the program would shut down. I did contact Acronis and this is where this product jumps off the chart to perfection. Customer service was very prompt to this trial user immediatly I was able to easily fix this problem, I then sent two seperate questions to Acronis with two rather basic questions to boot and both were answered promptly with detail and for the first time the end of the answer that said "PLease FEEL at ease to contact Acronis with any questions" really felt real and I wasn't getting stroked. I then Purchased Acronis 9 about a week ago and this Like Acronis 8 just does not fail. Very simple interface more detailed than 8 more options if you wish.
Cons: I cannot get this product to fail even when I try to find a weakness. Will this product work still even if I pull the plug. After the Norton Crapshoot Ghost is this true good to be TRUE IMAGE. NO CONS THE BEST SOFTWARE I HAVE EVER USED

Version: Acronis True Image 9
Pros: Don't know much about the trial version, but the full version is worth every penny.
(1) Backed up my C-drive, and put it on a DVD. (2) created an Acronis boot disk. (3) Booted my PC with the boot disk. (4) Restored the backup on another HD, and voila, it worked. First try! How easy is that?! Norton Ghost... you're deleted!
Acronis was even able to resize the backup to fit the new C-drive partition, which was smaller than the partition I backed up (10 GB -> 6 GB).
It can also check the backup file before restore, and check the recovery, once it's done.
Smokin' software... 5 stars from me!
Cons: Had to read several wizard descriptions, to make sure I got the right wizards (the software has A LOT of options). Not quite sure if this is a con, though... :-)

"True Image really help me rebuild my Hard Disk"
Pros: I used Norton Ghost 2003 for many years. I could move my hardisk image from one hard disk to another using Ghost to backup and restore the image on new HD. Until recently, I moved the image onto a Western Digital 200G HD in a partition size of 40G. After done, I backed up the image partition as usual using Ghost 2003. It can be restored on its own. It seems able to be restored onto a smaller HD (80G with 40G partition for the image). However, after restoring the image, it booted up to a point before the login screen show up and then STUCK there.
I searched from download.com for any other solution and found Acronis True Image 9 trial verion. I downloaded it and tried to backup the image from the 200G HD and then restored it onto the 80G HD. It was still not working and having the same symptom. I then tried the 'clone disk' (that is not allowed in Ghost 10 trial verion) and it works perfectly. During the clone, it adjust the CLUSTER SIZE from 32K to 16K. That could be the killer! You also be able to adjust the partition size at the same time to fit onto the smaller HD.
Conclusion: when moving image from a large HD (>200GB), backup and restore partition image between HD may not work but only clone disk work.
The GUI is excellent as compare with Ghost.
Great product and I finally purchased it on-line. I found that I can get a good discount if I buy Acronis Disk Director as well. The Disk Director is partition management/rescure tools that is easy to use and have more features than the Symantec Partition Magic 8.0. I finally bought them as a bundle.
Cons: In Clone Disk, you are not able to clone individual partition, You have to clone the whole HD. It would be better if it can selectively clone a partition (under clone disk) that will save a lot of time.
