"A/V sync Issues"

March 12, 2013  |  By jm6377

 |  Version: AVS Video Converter 8.0.1.492

Pros

Software is easy to use and looks like it would do a great job.

Cons

It doesn't work, and support will not answer.

Summary

I purchase this software thinking it would do a great job converting files from one format to another. The software looks great and has the features that I wanted. One big issue is that the audio doesn't sync up with the video. I have tried everything I could think of with no luck. I tried to contact support but have not recieved any communication. No phone number to call. My guess is that they are just creating phyantom software that may or may not work. DO NOT BUY

"it's nagware! don't waste your time"

November 14, 2011  |  By chatologic

 |  Version: AVS Video Converter 8.0.1.492

Pros

of course is free

Cons

Places a watermark so it's the equivalent of a nag screen. I hate it when I waste my time like this. 63 megabytes to download so it's not a quick one and then you find out there is going to be a nagging messages on your video. Might be easy to use and yield great results but you must pay for it! This is not freeware!

Summary

Unless you are plan to pay for it don't bother.

"Finally! A product that works!"

October 30, 2011  |  By alexpaIladino

 |  Version: AVS Video Converter 8.0.1.492

Pros

- Converts .MTS video files VERY QUICKLY (on Windows 7 at least)
- EASY
- VERY Simple interface (Hooray!!)
- MANY formats to chose from
- CAN convert HD video (which is what I needed!! especially .MTS format)
- AFFORDABLE and worth every dime!!!

Cons

Nothing negative to say.

Summary

My camera records in HD and it didn't take me too long to realize how LARGE these video files were and that I couldn't burn it to a DVD nor even share it with someone who didnt have Windows 7...so I have been downloading and deleting many trial programs until I stumbled on this one! I love it very much and have been using it for about a week or so. I was willing to pay for ANY program that was worth it's salt and this one definately is! I was able to convert my .MTS videos to .AVIs and .MPGs. I am very happy with the results!!! - this is all I wanted, and it works purrfectly! It's a keeper!

"No Blu-Ray, A/V sync issues"

October 29, 2011  |  By Alan Mintaka

 |  Version: AVS Video Converter 8.0.1.492

Pros

None if you work exclusively with DVD, Blu-Ray video files, 1GB and larger

Cons

For every type of file larger than 1GB I've tried so far, the output file has had audio/video sync problems.

Summary

Paid Version 8.0.1.492: I've tried a number of different conversion types, using both the built-in profiles and customs to try to fix the problem. Audio/video sync problems start showing up when an input file of any type approaches 1GB in size. It's not linear, so that audio/video are out of sync slightly for smaller files than 1GB, more far larger files. The amount of async seems to be worse with MPEG-2 and MP4 output, but even AVI output will be out of sync by as much as 4-5 seconds for sizes gt 1GB. I've tried some of the things suggested by AVS support and their FAQ but nothing has worked so far. In addition: although the specs say that MKV container file conversions are supported, I haven't yet gotten a working H264 video stream from any of the MKV files I've tried. I've been experimenting with different sources and the result is always the same. Other programs supposedly able to read H264 streams can't touch the output produced by the AVS converter. FWIW, the other streams and tracks in the MKV containers I've used have been working OK, including FLAC audio and subtitle tracks. It's only H264 files that give the AVS converter problems. Bottom line: so far, AVS Video Converter is a bust for me.

Updated on Oct 29, 2011

UPDATE: I forgot to mention that the BluRay conversion option doesn't work, period. The m2ts files in the produced can't be read by any software I've tried, including Cyberlink, and burning the BD folders to disc can't be played in the Sony BD-S550 (no other failures with commercial or BD-R discs in over a year of use). Not good.
