"Destroyed my Ultimate Rig"

February 17, 2015  |  By AVGRuinedMYPC

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Absolutely none for the purchaser, only AVG benefits from the garbage software.

Cons

After install my pc was slow as snails and took forever to boot. I run a big rig at just over 4.5K invested and this software completely destroyed its functionality.

Summary

I used AVG Virus software and they push notices to you through that all the time and I took them up on this software and PC Driver Update that they also sold me on.

Needless to say, it slowed my i7 to the pace of a celeron on boot and I experienced many issues with programs hanging to load and random crashes.

I then uninstalled, I also uninstalled the Driver Update, and low and behold a 5 month old system with no freeware installed began BSOD. Daily and sometimes 2 and 3 times a day.

Upon inspection of the BSOD dmps I see that AVG changed many of my drivers and the tuneup also impacted my registry so I now look at it like I paid over 100.00 to them just to screw my computer over.

I do not recommend this to anyone, unless they hate themselves and loathe their PC.

"Useless and overrated product."

February 16, 2015  |  By AlyshaY

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

If your computer is on it's last legs. (I still would not recommend.)
If you have low RAM. (I still would not recommend.)

Cons

Only YOU create any cons associated with this product by tampering with it.
(Don't touch it, don't even download it.)

Summary

I'm going to be calm about this...
This product is over-hyped and for the price it's ridiculous.
This program just shows you what you COULD do to 'speed' up your computer, placed in a very user-friendly interface.
Literally EVERYTHING in this program could be used for FREE by any knowing user. (Discounting the disk doctor aspect [which is honestly just a chkdsk when you think about it.])

No one 'needs' this software, it doesn't do anything to speed up your PC. Instead it tricks you into thinking it's speeding up the system by throwing in a ton of 'disabling' and 'cleaning' of files and registry error 'fix' aspects.
For example AVG 1 Click-Maintenance which comes with this program will scan for registry errors. Well whoopdee-doo, looks like some of these errors revert back into the registry to begin with and are unfix-able unless fixed manually making this aspect GARBAGE.
The AVG Disk Doctor aspect can actually RUIN your computers hard drive if a FULL scan is done, as stated in previous reviews it will hang at 10%.
By spamming the spacebar key this will revert the scan though, (WIN 8.1) although sometimes this doesn't seem to work.

Overall this program is garbage...
CCleaner works better then this program, and it's FREE. WHAT A JOKE AVG!

"Awful product! DO NOT BUY THIS!"

December 18, 2014

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

None at all.

Cons

1) Blocks your PC from booting up.
2) Does nothing to improve computer functioning.
3) Despite advertising a money back guarantee if you are not completely satisfied, AVG will not give you a refund because they make up stories about how it's your computer's fault (they told me I had a virus, I didn't) and your fault (I was scolded for not cleaning up my computer, which is two months old) that their product does not work.

Summary

I ran the AVG PC Tune Up program and it didn't seem to do much but my computer didn't really have any problems to begin with, I got the program because it was on sale and I thought it might keep my computer running smoothly going forward. I opted to use the AVG Disc Doctor. Disc Doctor is supposed to find errors on your C drive. It works by analyzing Windows before it starts.
The program requires a restart which I did. Prior to windows boot up, the program went to 10% and hung up there for over an hour. I restarted the computer several times and was unable to get past the disc analysis. There is a one second prompt that tells you to hit any key to get past the analysis but it never worked. I used another computer to look up online how to get around the Disc Doctor and it said that you have to press the space key when that one second prompt comes up. I was able to do this and logged in to my computer and immediately removed AVG PC tune up.
I called the number for AVG customer service (Guruaid) to get a refund. The level one tech remotely accessed my computer and told me that I had malware on my system that was preventing the AVG soft wear from working properly. I felt scolded when he said you have not cleaned up your computer for "a very long time." I informed him that my computer was 2 months old. He said that I still needed to do a clean up every 2 weeks. He said that for $100.00 he would "service my computer" remove the malware and several other unnecessary programs and reinstall the PC Tune up so that it would work properly. I said "No thank you."
I have had no indication that there is malware on my computer. I ran a scan with AVG Antivirus after I got off the phone with Guruaid and no problems were found. I bought AVG Tune Up because I figured it would help my PC continue to run well and it was on sale. Now I can't get my money back. $27 dollars spent, lesson well learned... buyer beware, glad I didn't pay full price. Usually I read reviews first but I chose to trust AVG since I like their antivirus program, not any more.

"Worst Program in the World? Could be."

July 12, 2014  |  By PandaMan06

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

What pros?

Cons

Everything. Thanks to AVG PC TuneUp (2014), I am out +$250 for a software service warranty and external DVD drive for my Lenovo IdeaPad Y500 gaming laptop.

It is now rendered useless and unbootable. Currently I'm waiting on a OneKey Recovery CD so I can attempt to save my data, roll back to Windows 8 (cause 8.1 messes up the Metro Apps), and restore my machine back to its glory days.

I can't pin-point the particular issue that AVG did to my machine. It could be a change to the boot process, the edit/removal of a registry value, or a hung process during the "scan and clean" step during the boot. Or even something else.

Summary

ALWAYS backup your computer. If you only have a flash drive, then back up what's most precious to you (you can always download and reinstall programs).

DO NOT TRUST OR USE THIS PROGRAM. There are several programs out there that are free and proven to work WITH your machine, not AGAINST it. Brands like ioBit, Piriform, Auslogics, and many more provide great results. AVG's only specialty is anti-virus, not for PC maintenance outside their own realm.

Apparently this is a recurring thing since 2011, meaning that they've done NOTHING to improve their cleaning/tweaking process. They can either research and actually learn to fix issues, or they can discontinue to program (which I recommend they should do).

Lenovo Users: If you're trying to recover and save your data, you'll need a OneKey Recovery CD and an external hard drive. Talk to Lenovo in acquiring one.

I would NOT recommend this program to even exist in our cyberworld. Save yourself the headache, frustration, loss of data, and even money.

"Free tuneup is deceptive"

July 02, 2014  |  By gmswenson

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Seems to speed up PC until free trial is over after 24 hrs, then it's worse

Cons

AVG advertised that you could run the program once a year for free, they did not say that the program would attempt to return your PC to the same level previous to your trial - it actually made my PC perform far worse after the 24 hour trial was over - it took me several days to even get internet access back. I emailed their support (from my phone)- they suggested I run the program to restore files, but in order to do that I had to buy it! No thanks, I am now getting rid of all the AVG software on my computer.

Summary

Don't try the free tuneup!!!!

"Learn to use"

May 01, 2014  |  By SammerJammers

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

It has saved my computer for many years aslong as it is not doing something it does not slow computer down when you are in the middle of a task don't try to do fifty other things its common since it takes high cpu because it is fixing your computer I have been using since 2011 on all my computers it does wonders on my oldies like my dell 2400 it runs as fast as it possibly could when befor I was having problems even opening a folder and pc freezing after I ran avg pc tune up it runs so much better I no longer want to throw it across the room. now for my 6gb ram 1 tb hard drive dell it helps aswell I don't have slow issues with it anyways but it fixes a lot of the problems I have had with it over the last couple years. I have never had problems opening the interface or running any tasks as I have seen in comments except for my dinosaur of a computer some times it takes longer to clean up the recovery tool (rescue center)is awesome I have saved my computer many of times I recommend.

Cons

old computers may take longer to run yet its probably the computer not avg

"Slows the computer more than it speeds it up"

April 29, 2014  |  By rodrupp

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Helps manage background processes and startup programs well. Decent user interface.

Cons

Consumes a HUGE amount of memory. CPU usage was constantly over 50% while it was on. Takes some 5+ minutes just to open the user interface. Many of the features take even longer to load. Computer completely freezes until it finishes loading.
Every bit of speed you get from cleaning up your system is used up 10x by the TuneUp itself.

Summary

Do NOT use. Slows computer down completely.

"Bait and switch with no customer support"

March 02, 2014  |  By MrNeutron777

 |  Version: Not Found

Pros

Purchase from this company if like to be the victim of bait and switch scams and enjoy getting the the runaround when you try to get customer service.

Cons

E-mail advertising is a bait and switch scam.

Impossible to contact customer support.

Summary

I have used AVG anti-virus for several years without incident. Yesterday I got an e-mail from AVG advertising PC Tuneup for $23.32. A link in the e-mail took me to the site where the price was $26.65.

I tried to resolve the issue by:
1) submitting a question online to "Julia" - no results
2) online chat - no operators available
3) calling the support number - recording directs me to the website
4) replying to the e-mail - e-mail failed
