Publisher's description of AVG Anti-Rootkit Free 1.1.0.42
From AVG Technologies USA:AVG Anti-Rootkit is a powerful tool with state-of-the-art technology for detection and removal of rootkits. Rootkits are used to hide the presence of a malicious object like trojans or keyloggers on your computer. If a threat uses rootkit technology to hide itself it is very hard to find the malware on your PC. AVG Anti-Rootkit gives you the power to find and delete the rootkit and to uncover the threat the rootkit is hiding.

- "AVG's new suite not all that"
- Version reviewed: AVG Anti-Rootkit Free 1.1.0.42
AVG Internet Security 8.0 has many new features including Linkscanner technology, which AVG Technologies acquired with its recent purchase of Exploit Prevention Labs. Overall, the product falls flat as an Internet security suite.
Missing from the suite is adequate antiphishing protection beyond e-mail blocking. AVG Internet Security 8.0 flags malicious Web sites, however, unlike the standalone version of Linkscanner there is no additional information provided about a threat. We also found the AVG suite to be resource heavy and produced false positives.
AVG installs Yahoo as the default search engine in up to two locations within your Internet browser, depending upon your installation choices. We were able to download and install AVG Internet Security 8.0 on a Dell XPS machine running Windows XP SP2 with no difficulty and without rebooting. If you are upgrading from a previous version of AVG, you must uninstall that version first before installing version 8.0.
AVG provides a fully functional 30-day trial. There are searchable FAQs on AVG's Web site with a handful of useful questions and answers. There is also a downloadable 172-page PDF users' manual that lacks a comprehensive index. AVG also doesn't provide telephone technical support or a free online user's forum.

Version: AVG Anti-Rootkit Free 1.1.0.42
Pros: Easy to install and use.Quick scans some files and process only.
Cons: Doesn't scan registry areas and archive files.Doesn't properly remove found Root-kits.Can't save a log of scanning results. Some Root-kits escaped the detection from this product.Just because it's free people over-rate it.There are many free Root detectors which do better job than this product.

Version: AVG Anti-Rootkit Free 1.1.0.42
Pros: Easy to install and uninstall. No error or problem like the last Beta version of AVG Anti-Rootkit. Although most Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware block Rootkits, AVG Anti-Rootkit is designed for detecting already on the system rootkit(s). The scan time is not slow, but also not fast.

Version: AVG Anti-Rootkit Free 1.1.0.42
Pros: Rootkits are nastier and stealthier than any other malicious program, thus, if your PC has no rootkit detector, you're lacking. This software is free. In my first scan it did not detect any rootkits...my PC is rootkits' free.
This software don't use too much resources on y PC and it scans fast.
Cons: None

Version: AVG Anti-Rootkit Free 1.1.0.42
"Difficult to assess fully..."
Pros: ....because I've got other anti-rootkit software that may have already saved me from inadvertently acquiring any of these real nasties. Like a lot of other people I really became aware of what a rootkit could do when Sony decided to add them by stealth onto our computers by people playing one of their CD's on a computer. I'd heard of them before but only really looked into preventing them getting onto my machines after that PR fiasco.
I've used AVG's anti-virus for about 6 years and their anti-spyware for about 18 months, I have to say that as I'm really happy with both of these programs that I trust AVG, which is why I am inclined to trust this program. I have used BitDefender Rootkit Uncover, McAfee Rootkit Detective, RootkitRevealer, Trend Micro Rootkit Buster and Blacklight's anti-rootkit program, these may all have prevented my computers from being attacked by rootkits, they all seem to do much the same thing, but as always there's no harm in having alternative protections as compared to having only 1 anti-rootkit/spyware prog.
Cons: None so far
