7tools Partition Manager includes everything you need to manage your hard drive partitions. It enables you to partition a drive, merge, ""defrag,"" or recover partitions, as well as change their properties. The most convenient feature is you don t have to quit Windows to run the program. To start, you choose the actions you want performed while Windows is running normally, and then press ""Apply"" to push the changes through. The interface is intuitive. You can resize hard drive partitions by simply dragging and dropping items from one list to another. The program includes easy-to-use wizard dialogs for the most common routines, such as merging partitions, redistributing disk space or recovering partitions. The biggest drawback, however, is the trial version doesn t let you apply changes you've made--which makes it tough to test how the program truly performs. From what we've seen so far, we think it might be worth the download. Overall, it's a useful, intuitive program for managing hard drives.Publisher's description

Version: 7tools Partition Manager 2009
Pros: No data destroyed (so far, anyway) and handles Linux ext partions, very quick formatting
Cons: Can't tell how long the demo will work
Summary: The first time I started the demo, it appeared to be non-functional, with the menus grayed-out. But the next time and every time thereafter, the program has been working, just fine. I'm using it on an old IBM laptop running Windows 98SE, with an ex... read more >>

Version: 7tools Partition Manager 2009
"Excellent program, but ONLY A DEMO - no functionality"
Pros: If you have the change, 7tools, the latest from Paragon, may be the pick of the litter. It requires a reboot after installation, as do the Ranish and Cute partition managers. But it resizes partitions simply and formats the new partition with NTFS.
Cons: Great, intuitive, but not free. "Apply changes" is non-functional until you buy the program.
Summary: I like it; I just don't have $30 to spend.
