7-Zip is a file archiver with a high compression ratio. The program supports 7z, ZIP, RAR, CAB, ARJ, LZH, CHM, CPIO, ISO, NSIS, RPM, DEB, GZIP, BZIP2, TAR, and Z formats. The compression ratio in the new 7z format is 30 percent to 50 percent better than the ratio in the ZIP format. Also, 7-Zip compresses to the ZIP format 2 percent to 10 percent better than PKZip and WinZip. 7-Zip has an additional powerful command-line version. Version 4.42 has speed optimizations, ISO and NSIS support.

"Best free archive tool. Rivals winrar and winzip"

Pros
Excellent archiving tool. Integrates into the windows xp shell seamlessly. Has the ability to test, as well as decompress and compress all sorts of files in many formats. I have been using this software for several months now and never a problem or bug.

Doesnt nag you to buy original version b'cos its absolutely free.There are no attached s/w with it. Zip & Unzip with single point & click. No need to wade through so many options. Can uncompress Linux native compression format like tar.gz , tar.bz2 ,etc. Includes uncompressing Windows native format like cab. Does it work relly fast while requiring minimal user interaction. On the whole a must have s/w.
Cons
The look & feel could be improved upon. The home page could have been better designed.

The blurb says "Supports CAB files". Yes, it can read them, but not create them, which is what I was trying to do.

It works well, it supports most formats out of every program I ever used, it's free, the program it's self is small, it uninstalls its self quickly and cleanly, best of all, it's free.

It doesn't support this one format, but I can't remember the format, so it's not a common one..

Pros
It's free, open source and gives great features (hig compression, encryption, split files...), it's definitely better than the overpriced WinZip.
