At first, 360Amigo System Speedup Free seemed to be of the more-tease-than-tool school of free system cleaners, and certainly its developers would like you to buy their premium package. But the free tool proved to be a good performer that will help many users keep their PCs running smooth and safe.

As with so many freeware versions of premium system utilities, 360Amigo's interface is stylish and heavy on the graphics and captions that explain what each feature does. The program consists of a system cleaner and a system optimizer, with a number of extra utilities, though some of the advanced tools are only available with the paid software. As with similar software, 360Amigo's System Cleaner scans for junk files and invalid or orphaned registry entries, runs a privacy sweep, defragments your disk drives, and restores your system to a previous state (if necessary). We performed a scan, and 360Amigo displayed its results along with some alarming graphics suggesting our well-maintained system's status was "bad," which free system cleaners are prone to do. We could de-select items for cleaning by unchecking their boxes, and the folder views let us see which files in each category the program was targeting for removal; in fact, 360Amigo's utilities offered more information about the files to be cleaned than many premium tools we've seen. After making our selections, we ran the first cleaner. Here's where many free tools clean a few errors and offer to clean the rest for a price, but 360Amigo powered through all three tools. Next we tried the System Optimizer, which includes an unusually detailed Startup Manager, a NetState tool that identifies all open connections and lets users terminate connections instantly, and a process manager, services manager, and uninstaller. The Tools menu offered an impressive array of extras like a Duplicate File Finder, a full Backup & Restore application, a drivers manager, a file recovery tool, and many others.

After we'd run 360Amigo's scan but before we let it fix the errors it found, we ran similar tools, including a premium package, for comparison. While the results were similar, 360Amigo's scan turned up some files the others didn't. The acid test came after we rebooted: 360Amigo's changes did no harm, and while our system didn't run noticeably better, we had the satisfaction of knowing the junk was gone from our system.

"Not worth the effort"

December 18, 2011  |  By kimbri38

 |  Version: 360Amigo System Speedup Free 1.2.1.7600

Pros

There are no pros of this in my opinion, none whatsoever. I wish there was a negative rate for this. It deserves it. I am wrong, it does have one pro, I now appreciate my CCleaner and Glary utilites more, like eating at a greasy spoon once a year, just to remind you what good food really is.

Cons

The speedup and anything worth value is only on the "Pro" edition. It has no real way of shutting off on startup and is always on and actually SLOWED my system. It does nothing the small utilities such as CCleaner or Glary utility already does. And THEY do not bog your system down. They are both quicker and more effecient. I was totally unhappy with this. Took way too much time and did, again, nothing I did not already have, I read the Cnet review and actually took their word on it. They were wrong. Integrety not ad revenue should fuel their revues. It also wiped my startup list, took passwords out, just finding more and more every day it did wrong in it's one day on my system, can't wait to see what else it jumbled up. Do not download. Gloom, dispair and agony on you.

Summary

Junk, took out more than it said and added less than it promised. No speed up at all, have to get pro, bogged down, erased startup items, just a overall bad experience.

"Interfered with Incredimail"

December 16, 2011  |  By hamearlybird

 |  Version: 360Amigo System Speedup Free 1.2.1.7600

Pros

Very quick and does most of what was promised.

Cons

Changed some file associations required by Incredimail to start. When I changed them back, Imail was a go. Hoever, every time I started it, I had to re-associate the files.

Summary

Removed the 360Amigo program as I value my Incredimail more.

"Support virtually non-existent"

December 09, 2011  |  By ChasD3

 |  Version: 360Amigo System Speedup Free 1.2.1.7600

Pros

Works fine. Works seamlessly.

Cons

Technical support is non-existent to the point where I may likely uninstall. Why? I had a question about how the dupe file finder works. You run it, but there's no info about what to do or check in the produced list of files, just check whatever you want to delete. The manual says nothing but basically run finder, saves disk space, then the next topic. Weird. Since nothing is identified as an actual dupe file, seems useless right? Lo and behold, in my journey for some advice I find there's no phone, the tech forum that I wanted to check-out gave me this statement: "Sorry but you cannot register at this time because the administrator has disabled new account registrations." All you can get is a pre-addressed email page and takes yur chances on a reply and one that is understandable without immediate interaction. Talk about a low quality tech operation.

Summary

If email support is all you get with a free version, just tell us! Since I can't think of a reason why this would not be spelled out, I suspect this is just bad support.

"Errors right after installing - not trustworthy"

December 05, 2011  |  By CarlosMirandaLevy

 |  Version: 360Amigo System Speedup Free 1.2.1.7600

Pros

It did create a checkpoint rollback before installing.

Cons

Upon finishing installation, a pop up window came up with special characters and a browser window pointing to their website came on. Their website was out of service, returning a 500 Internal Server error.

After that, I did not go any further, uninstalled it, did a rollback to previous checkpoint and rebooted.

Not much trust inspired by such a start.

Summary

Not trustworthy. Errors upon installation and website consultation. If they can't get their software and server to work, I will not trust them with my computer.

"Excellent - recommended"

November 29, 2011  |  By mike_austin

 |  Version: 360Amigo System Speedup Free 1.2.1.7600

Pros

Does all it promises, simply and efficiently. Runs without installing itself as a service (puts an icon on the TaskBar which can be easily exited) so no system overheads. Does not add any unwanted 'extras' like toolbars etc. Contains useful utility to backup and restore MBR. I use it together with WinUtilities 10.37 and Tuneup Utilities 2011.

Cons

Not found any yet

Summary

No reason not to have it on your PC

"Not recommended"

November 20, 2011  |  By dheck1961

 |  Version: 360Amigo System Speedup Free 1.2.1.7600

Pros

None - this program is junk. I only gave it a 1/2 star because the review program wouldn't let me give it a 0. I would have preferred to give it a NEGATIVE rating.

Cons

Trashed my notebook so bad I had to rebuild it. I created a System Restore point before installing and running, and had the program also create it's own restore point before making any changes. It proceeded to delete all the files/folders on my desktop and other locations. The system restore point their program created didn't work and their program trashed the one I created. Ive been in the IT field for nearly 25 years - never seen a program this bad before.
