This free tracks cleaner rids your PC of a few traces, but many are left behind.

WhiteRook Privacy Guard's interface is pretty stale, aesthetically speaking, though it's simple to navigate. As far as online tracks, the program deletes temporary files, index.dat files, and browser histories. The Recent Documents list rounds out its offline prowess.

After the cleanup, WhiteRook Privacy Guard displays the amount of space freed. While this may take care of the non-techies who snoop on your machine, the PC sophisticate still will have a trail of crumbs to follow. Cookies, caches, and run/search history all remain on your system. Then there's the fact that this app only clears away Internet Explorer tracks.

Not a brawny privacy tool, WhiteRook Privacy Guard is only recommended for those needing surface cleanup.

From the first day you use your PC, Internet Explorer creates secret invisible logs for every file that have ever been viewed by all users of your personal computer, forever. These logs can be used in litigation to make you and/or your employer look dishonest or worse.

WhiteRook Privacy Guard gives you visual access to two logs (found in the hidden History.IE5 and Content.IE5 folders) for verification that it has erased them dead. WhiteRook will also scan and delete certain folders and their subfolders for Index.dat files, Internet Files, History, Typed URLs, Most Recently View Document History, and Temp files used by various applications on your computer. WhiteRook Privacy Guard will erase all files that Internet Explorer overlooks, and regain megs of disk space so your PC returns to near new performance levels.
