MixMeister BPM Analyzer is a free program you can use to automatically detect the exact BPM (beats per minute) of any song. The tags in most digital music files provide no BPM information at all, and others contain estimates, which are often inaccurate. Whether you're choosing songs to mix together, building a playlist for a specific mood, or comparing different versions of a song, BPM Analyzer makes finding the correct BPM easy.

This is a simple program, but the BPM measurement engine is adapted from MixMeister Technology's award-winning line of pro DJ software, and it generates accurate BPM. MixMeister BPM Analyzer supports dragging and dropping files from Windows Explorer, and allows you to sort your music list by Title, Artist, or BPM. You can update ID3 tags in your music files with exact BPM information, print BPM reports for your entire music collection, or even export BPM counts for use in other programs like Excel or music databases.

Does what it needs to do, I guess..

Pros
No malware at all? Not even download links in installation. Was actually looking for them to appear, nothing so far. Works fast (+/- 3 seconds per 4-minute song, intel core i5-4670K). All mp3 files recognized.
Cons
not sure how accurate, gives it in 2 decimals behind the dot but another (intergrated) media analyzer (Media Go, SONY) gives different values.

Pros
There was no attempt to install any secondary software on my computer.
Cons
I had 60 MP3s that I wanted an accurate BPM on. This program analyzed only 12 of them - that's 1 out of 5. So I figure this program deserves a rating of 1 out of 5.
Summary
The BPM given on the ones it actually analyzed are very close to the rough BPM I did manually. On the ones it DOESN'T analyze, it displays either 40 or 45. ALL of the MP3s I wanted a BPM for were over 60, so I know this program didn't even look at them.
Riddled with malware

None. Didn't install it after SweetPacks and some random ASPCA program hijacked my browser. Aborted installation when it tried to instal RealPlayer

The reviewers who said this has malware bundled with it were right.
Summary
Two attempts to change my default search and add a toolbar to my browser were blocked. I had to uninstall 6 crapware programs. The installation was for MixMeister but instead, when the downloader completed its corruption of my system I got RealPlayer instead, which I am familiar with but don't want or need. I cancelled the installation.
By far the best program of its kind!

- Simple - Does what it's supposed to do: detects BPM and adds to ID3 tag - Scans and tags subfolders, unlike other BPM detectors - Fast: 1-2 seconds per mp3 on a reasonably fast computer
Cons
- Haven't found any yet. Not sure if it does other file types, but it works great with mp3's.

- The previous two reviews about malware are way off base. Both users apparently got suckered into CNET's download method, which tries to trick you into installing crapware. During the install, MAKE SURE YOU CLICK "DECLINE" during the three "offers" pages. (The accept button is bright green, the "decline" button is gray, making you think you have to click accept. You don't.) This is NOT a Mixmeister issue - it's CNET trying to monetize. - This program is far superior to BPM detector or the Abyssmedia BPM Analyzer in that it can scan subfolders, vastly improving tagging time. - Analyzes to 0.01 bpm with great accuracy. - Please note that songs with multiple tempos, ambient music, or songs with a strong bass beat might result in bad readings. - Also be aware of double- and half- rates. If you're looking for a song with a bpm of 160, there are likely a lot of songs tagged at 80 that will be sufficient.
Riddled with malware; SWEETPACKS killed my Firefox

None - did not dare run the program after watching the included SWEETPACKS malware wreck my browser settings in the installation process.
Cons
I expected DL.COM to warn me about this kind of malware. Even after I uninstalled it, MixMeister's "SWEETPACKS" infection wiped out my FireFox customization and I'm still trying to fix it. It also resisted uninstalling.
Summary
I can't blame MixMeister for this - there are many malware programs out there. You did teach me to avoid anything from MixMeister (free or paid) and anything involving "SWEEPACKS" like the plague. I blame DOWNLOAD.COM - your review says nothing about this. I have trusted you since you started your business. DISAPPOINTING!
Horrible program, full of programs that clog up cpu

It worked on a few songs out of the 100 that I tried it on.
Cons
This program (and CNet) install Bing nad Whitesmoke and generally clog up your computer. It is horrible and it has taken hours of my life to get my computer back to running normal. I hate it when programs try and do this kind of stuff. Definitely not worth it for a program that does a horrible job of BPM detection.

Be aware of 1/2 beats and double beats.
Summary
Cross-checked results produced by this with other sources and found to be amazingly accurate. Just be aware 1/2 beats in songs may double the BPM result and double beats may halve it. No other programs came close.

Doesn't work. Of the over 500 music files I needed the bpm for, it analyzed only 151. The files it wouldn't do are all MPEG4 audio files. It also wouldn't let me drag and drop files into it as it claims it will. When I try, it flashes a small white message window so fast that it's impossible to read what it says then goes back to the black screen of the software. I tried to get help on the mixmeister site but there isn't any available for this piece of software. There is a button on their site that says "community" so I thought I might be able to talk to someone there but the link didn't take me to a community.
Summary
Was impressed with the idea of this and loved that it was free, but it turned out to be of no use at all.

Used with a ballroom dance CD. Rumbas, the slowest ballroom dance, had higher BPMs than many of the other dance songs?! This software is completely worthless for my use.
