Handy utility for those who'd like to leave their computer unattended and then to automatically turn it off. TOff can turn off your computer (or hibernate, when possible) at a certain day and time with seconds discrepancy. Use it to leave your computer at the office to download some stuff from the Internet and then to turn it off at night so that it looks like nothing happened in the morning. MFC source code is available for review.
Only FREE Shutdown Program that works! Lots of options

Pros
With the price of electricity sky high, and forgetting to turn my computer off @ 450 watts can almost justify the cost of these expensive programs. But TOFF, REALLY WORKS. It will actually shut your PC off in a variety of ways.
Cons
It's hard to fault a free program which actually does the job. So I looked it over, and spent about 4 hours trying to find something wrong, but couldn't find anything noticeable yet. I'll have to get back to you on that one.
Summary
This little program sits in your tray, will start with your PC automatically, uses little memory, and will shut you down in a number of ways. You can log off off users, power off, standby, hibernate hard if you have a difficult program to close (my favorite as it starts right where you left off) or hibernate soft, or shutdown at a preset time, t-minus 20 minutes, or you can schedule what time you want it to shutdown. But it goes farther than that. There are two other options. Shutdown your computer after keyboard or mouse are idle for hours or minutes (you pick the time), or for those of you who like to download, it can shutdown after the network is idle for a time that you pick, ie, if you want it to shut down after you download.
It also gives you a one minute warning to stop shutdown and also gives you a button to shutdown immediately. After 18 months of use, it has never frozen my computer on me, or failed to shut down, although I did have to play with it a bit, using the hibernate hard intstead of the soft. Also you have to enable hibernation in windows. It can't do that for you. . I'm not sure if it launches programs or not because I never use it. Also I haven't used it on Windows 7 yet, but there is the xp compatability switch you can use.
I ran this in vmware and put a watcher on it to see if there were any malware & thru OllyDbebug, but it only tried to access the internet to check for updates. It didn't add malwae to the registry or make hidden folders, etc. This is important because I found another free shutdown program that did add malware, that other program on this website, added a legacy to my registry and changed my group firewall security, bypassing my firewall for that spyware loaded program. That's why I spent s o much time testing Toff. . In conclusion, TOff is a great program and it's free. It doesn't beg you to buy its other programs. It just works and it can lower your electric bill or log off your kids at their bedtime.
