Play MIDI files without using any sound cards.

SynthFont is a tool for playing MIDI files making use of SoundFonts, VST Effects and Instruments. With SynthFont you can also create audio files (WAV, MP3, OGG, APE, and FLAC) from your MIDI files. SynthFont makes it easy to assign different SoundFonts or VST Instruments to difference MIDI channels. There is also some basic MIDI editing capabilities (a "Pianoroll").

Great midi to wave renderer

I found this to use, as a midi to wave converter, and it works fine. The HELP explains things simply and I was doing it in a few minutes, compared to WinAmp, which I couldn't get in a few minutes. Although most sequencers can convert midi to wave, my brother doesn't have one, so I found this for him. He wanted to put his midi compositions on a CD, so that members of his choir could learn their parts at home. <p> <p>Although I use a special recording card, I miss that it doesn't have wave table synthesis. Even though I use VST (software) sounds, I still kind of liked some of my soundfonts, from when I used a SoundBlaster Live. This program also can be paired with the author's "Viena" Soundfont studio, which allows you to alter soundfonts or make your own sound fonts from recorded sound, similar to the way Creative's Vienna studio works. Only with this, you don't need a SoundBlaster or any soundcard for that matter. <p> <p>It is shareware but I'm not aware of limitations in the trial, as I've only used it for one day. <p> <p>The homepage for Synthfont is helpful, and includes links to free soundfonts.
Cons
A person newer to computers, might find it confusing that it doesn't create a desktop icon. Simply put the program and all its files in a directory of your own creation, and copy a shortcut of the executable (.exe) to the desktop.
