Normalization doesn't work

I bought the 2004 Pro version of this product for two reasons... (1) to join various MP3s together and (2) to normalize the volume of my music collection. The joining feature works great...
Cons
... but the batch normalization doesn't seem to work at all, unless you want to apply a fixed volume change to all MP3s in a specific folder (which isn't very useful). The help file is no help at all, and tech support hasn't answered my query. Very disappointing.

I downloaded MP3Surgeon because I've tried the now defunct DataBecker MP3Edit and the free MP3DirectCut, and was still looking for something more full featured and easy to use for editing MP3s without de- and re-compressing. Well, this one's the worst of the bunch. You can't change the size of the window, which on my machine (1600x1200) takes up about 1/6th of my screen. I can't see enough to edit. Furthermore, magnified details are only shown in a box separate from the whole waveform, which is then about 1/6th the size of the program window. A talented mouse might be able to use this prog to edit an MP3, but not me. Back to MP3DirectCut for me. Don't pay for this junk.

You go along, about to do a tiny edit, and *poof* a nag screen tells you to buy the product--and you never get to do what you wanted to do to see if the software works. Bummer.
