• Dextronet rewards customers by sticking it to them!

  It looks nice, and there are a lot of options for organizing your tasks.

  Dextronet's pricing for Swift To-Do List is really ludicrous. Look around for other companies that do this kind of thing to their customers... oh that's right, I can't think of a successful software maker that puts the screws to their customers like Dextronet does. To be able to sync your data, you have to pay an exorbitant amount per year, and that's for a sync service that is sub-par when compared to many other companies who provide it for free. Swift To-Do List is basically a closed system - meaning, that you only have it on Windows. There are mobile versions, but they are basically just the Windows version, all squashed down on a mobile platform. That makes for a very unfriendly type of working environment.

  Summary

  Does the software work? Yep, it does. And it's pretty. But consider the fact that there are applications and online services out there that are less expensive and provide FAR more features, and it becomes a pretty simple decision point with Swift To-Do List - It Isn't Worth The Money. But even if it were free, it is a bad choice to lock yourself into a software ecosystem that is not totally 'connected'. These days, a lot of companies have software that will run on just about any desktop or mobile platform, and also provide more features. And most importantly, you shouldn't reward a company with business if they are not going to treat you well.

  What?!? We paid for four pro licence and this was already quite expensive (even with a little price reduction that the editor kindly granted us) , with a beta feature allowing to synchronise task between users (it was what we were looking for). It was not fully functional but it was ok for beta and we bought our licences knowing the full feature would come. How surprised were we when the new version came out and we realized that now to be able to either synchronise or use the android app we had to switch to a yearly subscription plan of 99$ per year and per user and that the previous possibility were deactivated for those who wouldn't accept to be strong harmed into paying outrageous prices for the rest of their lives. This is the worst and most unfair customer management I ever encountered. This is not cow milking it is cow raping.

  Avoid this editor at all cost.

• Can't afford over-priced software

  The Good: The software itself does a lot. It's a good program to keep lists like tasks, notes and is a good program for this. It's good if you sit at a PC for the time you use it. There are a lot of features that will help a person accomplish what they want. One of the features I love is the ability to filter your tasks and to edit columns to your liking. I was able to use the program to great effectiveness when I was looking for a job. I could drag and drop RSS job feeds from Thunderbird or Outlook into STDL which made it great. Copy and paste as well as rich text notes makes STDL ideal. There are a lot of nice surprised.

  Cons

  The Bad: If you need your tasks to be portable then you're out of luck. The sync feature on version 8 is in beta and has been for over a year. They are now developing mobile apps for version 9 but have as yet, with version 8, nothing. One thing I found myself not liking is that the more I added tasks, the more I would have to search for them. I wish there had been a way to lock the task order and filter as needed but alas, this could not be done like another program that I now use.

  Summary

  The Ugly: Now, the ugly. I dropped my stars down to two. Why? Not because of the performance of version 8 but what Dextronet did to users of version 8. What I did not realize until just recently is how often Dextronet moves on to the next version. As another reviewer has noted, this program is over-priced and in my opinion, upgraded too often. To offer a Home, Professional and Ultimate version (reaching $150!) is overpriced as often as they release versions. If they released a new version every three to four years then sure, that would be fine but just about every year? No, not for me. This comes off to me as "milking the cow" as someone else here in the reviews worded it. I want all features (Ultimate) but I don't want to pay $150 every 1.5 years for an upgrade. That's too much. What really got me though is what they did to purchasers of version 8. Dextronet's business strategy is to sell their software before they implement all features in it. They're doing it again now with advertising the pre-release of version 9 in hopes that people will buy. Sorry, fooled me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. I thought the list of features they had promised for version 8 was impressive so I purchased the Ultimate, upgrading from version 7 to 8. I noted the list of promised features because it did seem like too good a thing. In the end, it was. Low and behold, version 9 is being released this month (Jan 2014) and only two or three items on the list of eight or nine promised features had been released in version 8. I had wondered what happened to the others! When I contacted them about this, I was essentially told, "Yeah, we're sorry, we made the mistake of over-promising. We learned our lesson", but yet no mention on their social sites about this. Am I the only one who noticed or are there not that many users? Their social sites do lack many comments from users so it makes me wonder. Regardless, I can't afford to pay $150 every 1.5 years and really, software shouldn't be upgraded that often. I use another productivity program that I've been using that helps make my life organized. They've been out developing this app about just as long as Dextronet has with Swift To Do List, yet their on version 4 for Windows while Dextronet is on version 9. It's the poor business strategy though that really killed it for me, which is why I'm not upgrading. If you can't follow through with the promised features, let your user base know. I noticed it.   Summary

  I'm a registered (paid) user of Swift To Do, and the software drives me crazy. I have two primary complaints about the program: It has a habit of going comatose while it sits in the system tray, and the program is structured so if you want basic features that should be present, upgrades are very expensive. Upon startup, the program works fine. But after a few hours of sitting in the system tray--even while the remainder of my XP system is still going and going, when I finally click the tray icon for Swift To-Do, it is non-responsive, and getting it to wake up requires a lot of clicking and waiting which is distracting and then, suddenly, you can't remember what you intended to do! Great. Those upgrades? The programmer has built into his program minor deficiencies that will cause most people to want to upgrade just to have basic features that you can find in other programs, and his upgrades are ridiculously expensive. You can get all the features of Swift To Do with none of the hassle or expense by using ReminderFox, a $5 Firefox addon; I'm using it, and I don't miss the ridiculous cow milking software.

  Seems like development is done by a small shop - so new version and new features seem to come out pretty slowly. But, so much already there - not a huge deal. Lack of mobile support via apps Doesn't handle collaboration very well (assigning tasks and sharing lists)

  Summary

  I have spent almost 20 years looking for the ideal to-do application. I have tried many different pieces of software and many different systems. Swift to-do finally hit the mark. This software does one thing and does it well. Manage your tasks. It is setup to work in many different ways and is very flexible in how you can use it. Trust me - this is the one you have been looking for. From the keyboard shortcuts to the various features - this will do just about anything you could ask of it... I have probably had 10 different things I wanted to make it do. Each time, I find there is a way to do exactly what I want to - already there in the software. Best of all - their support is simply outstanding. You Email them, they Email you back - and quickly. Anything I have asked - they have an answer for. If the program does crash (very rare), you send off a bug report - and they proactively contact you with the probable solution. I really can't say enough about these guys, their product and their support. I would highly recommend you purchase a copy..... also, spend some time reading the various blogs and white papers (and E-book) they have written - they have clearly studied tasks and to-do lists - and they are experts. I am running the Ultimate Edition and simply couldn't be happier. I am the president of a 40-person technology firm - and have 2 of my assistants running the software as well. In closing - this is how software should be written, how support should be provided, and how tasks should get handled. Thanks, Jeff

• Good task manager but could be better

  You can create any number of to do lists and sub-to do lists with notes. It has it's own text editor and with version 8, we get sub tasks - a must with any task management program. You can easily port to a thumb drive and sort, arrange and view your tasks by a range of conditions. You can edit columns. STDL is very good at letting you tailor itself to fit your needs very well. The calendar feature helps to focus one's attention on the current day's tasks. The program also comes with reminders, a timer for tasks and quite and other tasks that will help you be productive. Plus, the developer is adding features to the current version

  Cons

  Other than porting to a thumb drive (which doesn't fit everyone's situation), there are no mobile solutions for STDL. There is one in beta but unsatisfactory at the current time as it needs work and is in beta. I just had a situation recently where I really needed to take STDL with me where I didn't have access to a computer and couldn't. Not good. Also, I'm not sure if every user is experiencing this but every so often, STDL refuses to open on my system. Not sure if it's a bug or not but it's a little annoying to have to shut down my computer, restart it just to get STDL to open. Sometimes even on restart it won't. Not sure what is wrong but I don't have this issue with any other program. Finally, you can't maintain an ordered list in the main to do list area which is a big failing in my opinion. When you create a task with sub-tasks, you have the option of keeping those sub-tasks in order but the main to do lists tasks lose their original created order when you sort by any column.

  Summary

  I've actually stopped using STDL for now because of the cons I've listed. However, STDL is good for people who are primarily at a desktop computer most of the time or someone who doesn't need to be as mobile with it as some people need to be. It made a wonderful job searching tool for me because I was able to tailor the program so well to my needs so not all was lost. I would recommend trying it out but use the full trial period to see if you encounter the issue with it starting. One other con I forgot to list is that the auto-update feature has never worked for me even though it's supposed to and the developer is constantly updating it due to bugs so not sure if that's a good thing or not. In some ways, it's ended up being a love-hate relationship with me. It's a really good robust task manager but it could be better.

• A very useful, intuitive and fun organization tool!

  Pros

  I've been searching for years for an organizational software tool [reasonably priced] that could help me keep track effectively of all my ideas, contacts, appointments, accounts, passwords, files, writings, etc. in one location. Swift To-Do was exactly what I've been looking for and I knew it as soon as I started with the trial version. After a few days of using the trial I quickly upgraded to and purchased the Professional version and it's exceeded my expectations. It's compact, expandable, exportable and very visual with its dozens of assignable icons. I find personally that the visuals not only make the program easier to use and follow but also add an element of fun so that inputting data is no longer just a chore. I've tried Evernote and Flashnote and a few others but Swift To-do won out easily and hands down. The ability to export the software to an encryptable flash drive is also great!   Slick, snappy interface, very customizable in pro version - recurring reminders, due dates, note taking, just a lot of good stuff going on here but it's not overly complicated to learn to use.

  $45 for pro/upgrade version = too much

  Summary

  Much better than taskulon (other free task manager rated highly on Cnet), or using google calendar/tasks. I tried a lot of other stuff as well, but nothing really could match this. However, having to pay $45 to get recurring meetings/reminders is too much for what this program does (didn't really want the $25 daily version). Will stick with Lotus Notes to do list, I just didn't want my reminders to show up in my calendar when it wasn't an event/meeting like Lotus does, but it works. If this would have been $20 I would have bought it, but even now I'd rather just stick with Lotus even if the price drops.

  This is the second product I have tried from this company and i love it to death. I run 3 businesses online and this has just blown my mind away there is no way I could do what i'm doing now without this software. Haven't found any cons yet! :)

  Summary

  I run over 3 businesses online and i always have a hard time trying to put everything in order and always forget to do the most important things for the day. With this software I am finally able to list the most important things in order and focus on the task at hand. I highly recommend anyone who either runs a business online like myself or if you have a commercial business you really need to try this just download the free trial you get to use it for 30 days i love it so much i just purchased it after 30 days. It's a lot cheaper then anything you would find in stores and does a lot more for your money.
