The built-in Windows search feature often leaves a lot to be desired; it's slow, clunky, and not always very thorough. For occasional or inconsequential searches it's not bad, but users who are serious about finding particular files on their computers often turn to a third-party search application. If you're in the market for such a program, Super Finder XT is a great choice. This powerful program makes quick work of serious searches.

The program's interface is attractive and intuitive, with a design that's reminiscent of recent versions of Microsoft Office. We liked that Super Finder offers both Simple and Advanced modes, making it suitable for users of all experience levels. The actual search capabilities are impressive; there are many options for customization, including the use of wild cards, file name masks, and partial file names. Users can specify file characteristics such as size, time stamp, and other attributes, include or exclude subfolders, ignore the case of the file name, and much more. We especially loved the fact that the program can be quickly accessed from the context menu by simply right-clicking on any folder; Super Finder launches quickly and is ready to go. The searches themselves are surprisingly efficient; the same searches with the Windows search utility took longer and returned fewer results. Super Finder comes with a built-in Help file that could stand to be a little more detailed for total newbies, but most users should find that it provides adequate direction. Overall, we found Super Finder XT to be both easy to use and quite powerful, and that's a combination that's hard to beat.

This is MUCH better than Win 7 search - they aren't even in the same league, in my opinion.
Cons
The icon printing is too small on my laptop.

Pros
I could not find any positive aspects to this software. I was seeking an efficient alternative to the useless search tool in Windows 7 which is far less efficient than the more thorough search utility in xp. I should have read the user reviews in addition to the CNET editor reviews but in the past I have found the CNET reviews trustworthy. This was not the case for this software.
Cons
This program really does nothing. It does not find files, text, folders or anything else in any predictable manner. It is difficult to use and to interpret even for an all too seasoned technobrat which I am. Do not waste your time.
Summary
If you are seeking a comprehensive search utility that is flexible and thorough, this is not it. Do not bother.

It does what you need, if in search for a single file.
Cons
Typical teaseware. Too many features require the "supporter" version to be enabled (and paid). So, no way to export a list of results or to save favorite folders.
Summary
Good for basic usage (and better than the standard Win7 search. Not enough for a less occasional usage.
A memory hog

Used 10 times the memory while idling as the other-similar-excellent (but not as pretty) utility I have used for years: Locate32.
Summary
Given what I saw in Windows Task Manager, I would be a fool to replace Locate32 with this.

Typed in familiar wild cards and returned the file i was looking for immediately. Windows had not been able to drill down to this level and neoSearch was a waste of time. Stops after finishing the search. Windows seems to go on forever. Simple and intuitive interface

Faster than hungry cats at feeding time when it sets to searching!

Paaaaaaaaiiiiinfully slow to start up on my Lenovo Edge50, even though it's in startup. Dunno. And, like another user said, it doesn't give enough enough about the search. In fact, it doesn't even show you your search string while it's looking.

I don't know whether it's the best out there, but it seems to be just about the only thing out there, i.e., that Download.com carries. Wonder why? No market? Or is EVERY drive on Earth but mine organized?

This software sent all kinds of bells and whistles off in Commodo. I sandboxed it, and when I went to run it, Commodo said it was malware, so I killed it. DO NOT TRUST THIS FILE. Version 0.0.0.0 and no digital signature at all? Not right!
Summary
Cnet does not appear to be as reliable as they once were at insuring the public of safe free software (sadly). I heard this from a programmer, who claimed he had downloaded files here that did contain malware. I did not believe him, and took it with a grain of salt. After Remo, and now this, I have to agree with the guy. I can no longer come here without fear of getting bit. Pass this one by....
