Sophiticated Software simple to use

1. easy to use 2. practical 3. based on state-of-art portfolio theories 4. the MOST IMPORTANT, it is CHEAP 5. Therefore, it is worth every penny and more....
Cons
It does need some technical support, however, the vendor is very responsibe and responsible, quick fix available.
Summary
I've been using it since 2008. by using Smartfolio, I host a few portfolios in close-end fund, family house and private equity fund. Recently I managed a equity fund portfolio of 28 large-to-mid cap stocks, to achieve 15.98% Aunnal Return YTD, with Sharpe Ratio 1.94. There is nothing more to say than the fact that Smartfolio is for real!

Downloaded the trial version on Oct 29, 2011, and when trying to run after installation and reboot an error message was thrown stating: "DLL's not properly installed." During installation, there appeared to be a lot of .OCX files and some "VB6run" DLLs -- so it is apparent that that .NET is not used exclusively. My suggestions would be to convert the VB6 to VB.NET or C++, and get a better installer such as Installshield, and develop multilingual installations.
Summary
If a program does not install successfully, then the package is likely to be underdeveloped. If you need technical support to install a program, imagine what you would need throughout the useful life of the program.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on Nov 6, 2011<p/>Program has stabilized somewhat after Windows 7 learned how to adjust for its peculiarities. Excel 2007 keeps disabling one of the add-in .DLLs, since it throws an exception (error message) that serious damage can result by continued use of the .DLL

Summary
I really wanted to like this product because of all the touted portfolio analysis capabilities. Unfortunately, the program crashed within the first five minutes of use. I managed to add four different stock symbols and as soon as I selected "Efficient Frontier" the program crashed. Thinking this was very odd, I emailed the company with my computer specs and software specs (Excel 2007 and Windows 7) I was told that my hardware and software is fine. Upon contacting support I received a prompt response but when I implemented Boris' suggestions (basically to re-enable the ribbon add-in and try again) the program immediately crashed again. I decided to send him screenshots of all the error messages and told him I thought it was terrible that the program should crash like this when trying to use one of it's basic features and that I was concerned about the reliability, especially since I was planning on using it in a professional manner. I guess he did not like that because I have not heard a solution or response of any kind from Boris or anyone else at the company despite a follow-up email. I almost purchased the program for $600 but I am extremely glad I downloaded the trial first! The program is unusable for me. I would have expected Boris (apparently the Managing Director) to be a bit more customer oriented or concerned about such a fatal program flaw. Hopefully his lack of response is due to time constraints from fixing the program. Although, it would still be nice to get some sort of response, very unprofessional.
