Barely works. Pro mode does NOT work

None. Unless you count tedious FTP of one file at a time a "pro".
Cons
"ProMode" won't work as Serv U hasn't kept pace with changes in Java. This is an error that occurs across many platforms and all browsers. This is a dud.
Summary
I'm getting a Liveconnect error with the java runtime in OSX Mountain Lion, Windows XP and Windows 7 using Firefox, Safari and Internet explorer. Same error across the board. It is possible yo upload files - large files in fact. But forget multiple files or folders.
Works Great! Support reacts fast too.

Pros
Simple to install, setup and customize. Many features and connection options. Fairly easy integration with existing user database.
Cons
A bit pricey when compared to consumer grade alternatives but you get what you pay for because it's in a different class. Can't get the Web Client Pro plug-in to work. Will contact support and see what they say. I'm sure they will fix it.
Summary
Has many features and giving users the ability to transfer files via a simple to use web client is great for those that are not that computer literate. One thing that's really neat is you can give users a choice when they login. They can choose to use the standard web interface or use a built-in FTP client as long as the user has Java installed on their computer. Really neat!
Does what I want, but very expensive.

They have two different price points, they should probably have three. But I'm going to buy it anyway because I've had nothing but problems trying to find an FTP server that works with Windows 2008.

Pros
This program has a very simple and straight forward front end. Has quick and easy popups to tell you what steps you have to take in order to have your FTP up and running. Little to no steps. Ive been trying for days to get the FTP running, and simple email conversation between myself and the support team told me that this program will definitely suit my needs. The turnaround time between our emails was less then 24 hours, and the Support staff was very detailed in the emails. It looks like there are a lot of useful tools on this program but i needed just the basics. It uses very few system resources which was fantastic. I cant stress how relieved i am as to finding this program and im just disappointed i couldn't find it sooner. Thanks again

Nothing i can think of.
Summary
I would definitely suggest this program to anybody who needs a FTP server running on there network for home purposes. I'm sure it can be expanded to business environments but that's not something i want to try out. Better leave that for the professionals. I will be posting this review on different websites also so that others can read my experience.
Best to Avoid for Commercial use.

Good interface, well behaved, easy to learn but don't be fooled. There are serious drawbacks.
Cons
Without warning you will find the need to add an SFTP server to your FTP server and then you are in for a shock when you find it is a very expensive bolt on extra. This fact is apparently in the manual but with a simple interface, who needs a manual?
Summary
Good for FTP but if you are ever going to use an sFTP secure or SSH server best try the Cerberus FTP server first. Otherwise it looks pretty...
Top notch customer support and a fantastic product!

I own a cloud computing business that directly relies on Rhinosoft's Serv-U product as our main FTP for our core business functions. Recently our programmer was experiencing some problems when installing SQL on our servers. This was a critical path in improving our client functionality. Our multiple attempts to upload these changes were not successful and we turned to Rhinosoft for support. They promptly responded, provided multiple options and worked with our programmer in developing a solution, allowing us to continue with our database upgrades.
Cons
I haven't had any negative experiences over the past 5 years of service.
Summary
In the years we have been partnered with Rhinosoft, we have received nothing but quality customer service and technical competence. I highly recommend Rhinosoft if you are looking for a reliable FTP and a knowledgeable support staff.

Decent UI, user management.
Cons
Support does not go through any troubleshooting procedures, they only send you what they assume is the solution but never bother to actually read the customer's problem or verify their issue. And don't even try to call them, they want you to pay just to explain to them what the issue is. Worst support of any company I've dealt with and we bought their "GOLD" support. Absolutely terrible!

If you depend on 3rd party support don't deal with them, what's the point if you end up doing all the work yourself, might as well go opensource and roll your own. see email chain (edited to protect identity of all parties) To: service@rhinosoft.com Subject: RNTO command requires write access to parent folder Hi Thomas, that doesn't help me for my problem and also still doesn't address the issue I pointed out from the earlier email that if you rename a folder, it will stop allowing the user to read/write to the folder since the permission is granted base on folder name prior to the user changing it. Let me paste the original email here again: Description: We are trying to setup access control so the users may only make changes to subfolder but not on the root folder or the subfolder itself (i.e. we don't want them to delete, rename the sub folders). Our ACL setup as below: \VirtualRoot : RL \VirtualRoot\F1 : Full, inherit to child \VirtualRoot\Upload : Full, inherit to child We can add, rename, delete without issue in \VirtualRoot\F1 and \Virtual\Upload but when we try to move a file between the 2 folders we get permission denied on the RNTO command in the log file. It seems that we need Write permission on the \VirtualRoot folder to be able to successfully "move" the file even though we have full permission in the 2 sub folders. Please let me know if there is a configuration that is need to allow the users to "move" a file without giving full access to the root folder. Thanks. The reason RNTO is not working as designed is because it requires me to grant WRITE permission to the parent folder in order to MOVE a file from 1 sub directory to another, and the culprit seems to be the RNTO command base on the log file. I know you said you understood the issue but the solutions you have provided does not align to it, I don't know why this is so difficult to explain when we've provided you with config files and examples and tried to contact you via phone to explain the issue which you have refused to discuss without premium support. I think by providing the technical analysis beforehand is confusing your team, so let's try rephrasing instead: &#8226; I need to give user access to write, read, move, delete, rename directories and files between 2 sub folders (\TF_QA1\Upload and \TF_QA1\F1) but keep the parent folder (\TF_QA1)structure constant, so they should not be able to move or rename the 2 sub folders (\TF_QA1\Upload and \ TF_QA1\F1) nor should they write/delete files on the parent folder. &#8226; I'm able to configure the setup but it will not allow me to MOVE files from \TF_QA1\Upload to \TF_QA1\F1 unless I also grant write permission to \TF_QA1 &#8226; We need to have the ability to MOVE since downloading files then re-uploading it manually is NOT an acceptable workaround for the MOVE operation. &#8226; Could you find me a way so I can accomplish point 1 and not allow users to put files on the parent folder? At this point besides a solution I also wish to escalate this to customer service and your supervising manager, please forward this email chain to the appropriate parties. In your case, you need to be able to have full access to both the "Upload" and the "F1" directories, and be able to move files between them. With the solution I provided, with the Directory Access rule structure I provided, users can Upload, Download, Delete, Rename, and Move files between the two directories. In addition, with the rules I provided, the users cannot Rename, Move, or Delete the "Upload" and "F1" directories because the rules for F:\ftp\_Disabled\TF_QA1\Upload and F:\ftp\_Disabled\TF_QA1\F1 explicitly have "Remove" permissions disabled. In the Directory Access rules configuration I provided, Write access is not provided to F:\ftp\_Disabled\TF_QA1\. In the Directory Access layout I sent, downloading and re-uploading files is not necessary, as moving is supported. Easy, Convenient, Reliable, Secure, and probably the best software I've had the pleasure of using. Does everything, and I mean Everything, I need/want it to do.
Cons
User interface is a bit sluggish but that is to be expected when using a browser to interface with the engine.
