  Pros

  Enjoyed this chat room, plan on visiting often. Members there seemed really knowledgable about this illness and various treatments. Adults who can carry on an intelligent discussion. Very supportive there, feel like others like us would agree.

  Cons

  No real negatives except that many members are in different countries and different time zones... so sometimes there might be a lull in chat; it's a minor issue to me. If it seems quiet for the moment, I always come back later and find a friend!

  Summary

  This is the right kind of chat for me, and I suspect also many other people with this illness, or their friends and family. While the discussions can be quite intellectual, they are always accessible for most typical chatters. The regulars in this chat do know what they are talking about, and are able to discuss various aspects of schizophrenia - the meds and side effects, how it affects daily life, self-esteem issues, etc. One feels invited to share, and when you open up to share your story, you are met with supportive, friendly acceptance. They aren't there to try to cure you, advertise pharmaceuticals, advocate this treatment or that. Everyone shares what has worked for them, as well as sharing the less pleasant aspects of treatment. I do not feel out of place there. I have noticed that the operators of the chat maintain such a normal, pleasant environment conducive to discussion; they do not tolerate it when troublemakers come in to disrupt the room or when they try to swear or flood, etc., to get attention. It is a very well-maintained and well-run chat. It is not all just about serious discussion... There is a lot of laughter and real life anecdotes from the members which can be therapeutic in itself, just to sit back and listen, or have a laugh with everyone. I have found very few chat rooms that deal with mental illness AND are also enjoyable and worthwhile. This room is a rare treat, Personally, I highly recommend it for anyone suffering with schizophrenia or those who love them.
