  no intentional editing. Must use program algorithm to edit. cropping is done by guesswork. color changes don't seem apparent, but I didn't change orange to purple so I can't be sure. cannot make your own patterns in the program without another graphic editor which makes it useless.

  Summary

  not worth the download unless you are ONLY setting patterns for pictures and want to guess how to use the program.

  Can convert personal photos and original designs to patterns, can easily adjust stitch count, and adjust sizes for various projects. Very easy to learn.

  This program is great for crafts people who do not want to be limited to commercial patterns and want to make projects that have personal meanings.

  If you wish to create a cross stitch plan from any reasonable picture, then this is the tool to use. The improved printing options make this program so easy to use to get what you want. The size of the printout can be altered to increase/decrease the symbol size from the standard 10 symbols per inch - perfect for those who want clearer symbols. Multi-page printouts are easy, including optional short symbol keys on each page or a single long symbol key on a separate page. This program caters for complete crosses only, and no backstitch. These are entirely reasonable ommissions, as it's impossible to see how this information could be obtained from a small picture. The colour selection routines are accurate and editable so that if DMC change their range, no change is required to the program code. Very, very clever. Definitely the program you need.

  Straightforward to use; can handle main image file formats (.png, .bmp, .jpg, .gif); good pattern clean-up tools (colour merging, and pixel-by-pixel manipulation possible); free

  When printing the pattern is squeezed onto a single page (for medium-large patterns the printout is not readable); recognition of backgrounds for rapid clean-up is not very sophisticated; quarter/half stitches not supported

  Summary

  For a free tool for creating whole-stitch cross stitch patterns (no backstitch, quarter-/half-stitches, &c.) of small-medium size, this is a good piece of software. However, cleaning up the backgrounds (especially from vector graphics files such as .jpg) can be very time-consuming, and the capacity for saving/printing the final cross stitch pattern is rather limited.

  Cons

  If you want to do complicated cross-stitch designs, most images will give you an error message that say too many colors. Only small images with few color will work.

  Easy, free, but not acceptable for large scale cross stitch designs.
