This freeware has all the makings of very good suite of system tools, but it suffers from a beta software feel. ProCleaner's cluttered interface wastes space with buttons for functions that aren't enabled. Columnar data can be sorted, but in one instance it only sorted by month instead of the full date. Some columns aren't wide enough to display the full data and you can't scroll to see all of the information. Help is available only online and there is a complete lack of tooltips or onscreen instruction.

Interface issues aside, this program offers some helpful features. However, again they fall short of fully realized functions. The History Eraser covers 10 prime file types, but you can't choose which items to delete. It's all or nothing. Uninstall Software offers a helpful Delete Uninstall Entry function, but displays no file or folder data for items. The Startup Manager is the most complete function with extensive details on each startup item. It includes easy set options to disable or remove items on the list.

ProCleaner's Dependency Viewer proves helpful for advanced users looking for file dependency, but casual users won't need or use this function. Oddly, the program includes buttons for settings and a Registry Scan that haven't been enabled. With some unfinished functionality and hit and miss with the tools that are enabled, this freeware toolset needs some work before we can recommend it.

Summary
Downloaded, installed and ran ProCleaner. I got an info page telling me what I already knew i.e. I am using Windows Vista, the name of my PC etc. Then an error message poped up "Unhandeled exception". Tried to ignore but ProCleaner would only move between registry page and start up page. It would not launch either. So I uninstalled and repeated the above. Same results. Well, O.K. I then went to Procleaner.net and found a note about initialize failures because user did not have .NET FRAMEWORK VER 2.0 or higher installed. I checked, I have it and Windows Update tells me the only update I don't have is an optional for FAX. I don't have a fax, so I didn't dwnld. Then I uninstalled ProCleaner and downloaded from ProCleaner.net. Same results "Unhandeled exception". I wanted this utility to work. Judging by the rave reviews some gave it, I would think most would appreciate such a program. My sincere apologies to ProCleaner if I have erred, but I cannot imagine where or how. Oh, if you're wondering, ProCleaner.net states that the utility supports Vista. If I can resolve the problem I will update, but I've wasted enough time on this one for today.

There are many tools on download.com that are better than this. I can't believe the editors rated this a 4 out of 5 stars.<p>No program HELP available.<p>No online HELP available.<p>Registry Scan does not work.<p>Almost all the program links to internet are broke.<p>Program throws .NET errors.

Gives a decent explanation of the start up program you are looking at, and tells whether or not it is enabled. The screen it easy to read also and is split into what the programs are and the explanation for each.
Cons
Although it has a button for reg clean, it is not yet a part of the program.

The program uninstaller will leave remnants in your progream files, after it tells you the program has been successfully ununstalled. When you try to run the Privacy and Optimization Center feature,you get an error message,"unhandled exception has occurred in your application". When you click on the registry scan, it says"If you are looking for a good registry fixer, we recommend PC MightyMax. Click here to go to their download page. Shows you a link to go to a web page. when I tried to visit their page, my antivirus popped up a warning of DANGEROUS WEB SITE!(PC MightyMax)

I emailed them with the same problem as kirk32669 -- they had me install the .Net Framework from MS and now it works great. I thought I had it before but I guess not... good hitsory eraser! Also they emailed be back very quickly which I didn't expect -- good.
