Permission Analyzer scans your network and combines NTFS permissions with user and group data from the Active Directory. All data that is stored locally can be retrieved to create overviews of permissions per group or user. You will be able to monitor permissions for entire user groups and receive notifications if undesired permissions are flagged within your network.

Main features:Scanning the network.Configure the directories and LDAP Organizational Units to scan. All directory information and group memberships from LDAP are saved in a local database file. Run the scan whenever you like or schedule an automated scan. Permission Analyzer supports an external database, allowing multiple workstations to share the same information source.Running your overviews.All information is saved on a database, allowing you to conduct targeted search queries in seconds, instead of scanning the whole network every time you want to apply a new filter. Add filters for specific members, all members of a group or LDAP OU, permissions or folders.Tracing permissions.The main overview provides an aggregated summary of all permissions found and may contain the permissions of multiple users or groups. The Trace function is part of the overview and shows you the origin of permissions for a specific user or group and folder (via the group membership or parent folder they have been inherited). Use this view to zoom in on your search results.Creating reports and policies.Save your filters as report and export them to HTML or CSV and e-mail. Use Permission Analyzer to run reports automatically using command-line parameters. Save your filters as policies and receive e-mail notifications if your policy report contains unwanted permissions.

Great added value and good support

Pros
We have been using version 1.6 for the last few years now and the tool is very helpful on our network. We have a lot of permissions setup for individual users rather than groups and Permissions Analyzer helps us identify exactly where the permissions are coming from and allows us to get more control over the access. We use version 2.0 to check permissions for a group of users at once, I haven't seen any tool that can do that. I have setup scheduled reports and I now receive an e-mail alert when permissions are found that match my filter. I must say it feels great to have some control over the NTFS permissions in our network. The overviews are very fast compared to other tools, because the overviews query a database instead of scanning the network. We have scheduled a nightly Windows task to run the tool in scan mode, which updates the database.
Cons
It doesn't offer much functionality to modify permissions on the file system. You can modify individual ACE's in the application which are applied on the file system, but there is no feature to apply bulk changes.
Summary
I think Permission Analyzer adds a great value in our network. We use it on a daily basis and besides the schedules reports we use it to check permissions when the business requires additional group memberships. I don't know how other organizations audit their NTFS permissions, but at least this tool gives us some form of control.

Summary
This program offered exactly what we needed. Controlling all the permissions for each network user in a normal Windows environment is just impossible! This program really helps me out.
I'm not quite sure this is for all language operating system versions

Pros
I liked the support answer within 24 hours and it's help. The easy registration process would make you happy, too, but there's no note that you'll need Internet access for activation (imagine people with so high security they wouldn't connect the computers - where the software is - to the Internet /~ the mail would be saved to a pendrive, etc./). Within 1-2 minutes 27GB datas were scanned (directories), it hink this is a very nice data!
Cons
There were problems with differenct language operating systems where you may think the program isn't working (huge list). It was better on English-based systems. There should be an option at settings to switch between date formats (think about regional settings), too. An offline help is needed to get a better view. The price isn't a good solution by my opinion, there should be some more packages. <p>This is an error message which isn't solved: <p>"Runt-time error '91': Object variable or With block variable not set".
