• Works as advertised!

  Very easy to use, and makes folders and files invisible (sort of)

  As was mentioned: The folders and files won't show up in your normal folder view, but if you search for files they will show up in a search query even if it is in the folder you've hidden. So that is kind of a bummer.

  Summary

  The problem people are/were having with folders disappearing happened to me at first. The "trick" is you have to open the program "as an administrator". Otherwise it can't save your configurations to disk. I was having to manually type in folders to unhide them and the program worked kind of buggy. As soon as I ran the program with adminstrative privileges it worked flawlessly. So if you are just trying to makes files/folders not readily available this works great. If someone halfway knows what to search for though they will find your vaulted folders.

  Pros

  It does what it says: changes the folder/file attributes to "hidden"...

  Cons

  You still can see the folder/file if you have set up Windows to show even hidden folders/files (with a faded icon). Besides, it won't let you browse to select folders or files whose name starts with "." (i.e. "/.folder" , as in "hidden" in Linux)

  My experience was exactly the same as rlennon - check out that person's review as well.<p>My file was lost forever...but I also hid a test file in case this software was junk - which it is. <p>Don't use it to hide anything valuable, you'll regret it.

  It looked easy to use, but is too bug-ridden to risk your files with.

  Cons

  (1) Once installed, there's no link to access the exe from your start menu - you have to browse to Program Files to run the exe. <p>(2) Using the program, I browsed to a folder I wanted to hide and pressed the "hide" button. System vault hid the folder but gave me a runtime error. <p>(3) When I tried to unhide the folder I had just hidden, System Vault gave me a list of files and folders I could unhide -- with no folders in it!! My folder appears to now be lost forever. Thank goodness I was testing the software using a "test" folder before trying it on my valuables files. <p>Conclusion: with all of these ugly bugs, this software's not even ready for the beta testing stage, let alone trusting your sensitive files to it. Pretty crappy for "security" software.

  The only thing is when you go to a folder like in My Documents and its hidden it won't show up in My Documents but like in Vista if you type in the name of the folder in the search box it will find it even though its hidden.

  Tried hiding one sub-folder, the software crashed. Then I wasn't able to find the sub folder to "un-hide" it. I then removed the program, restarted the computer, re-loaded the program. That didn't make the original folder re-appear. I then tried hiding another folder. I should have known better..the software crashed again but this time the entire directory disappeared!! I tried and tried to recover the directory. I finally had to purchase a recovery program to thankfully recover everything. <p> <p>Their support was non existant. I sent 3 emails, none of which were replied too.

  Pros

  I like how simple the interface is, the procedure is pretty cut and dry. It doesn't say Windows Vista Compatible but I have been using it for awhile now hiding and unhiding files and folders and I haven't had an issue yet! Great program!

  Cons

  When you select a folder it took me a while to figure out that you have to double click the folder you want to hide instead of just selecting it but that is not a problem at all!
