In spite of a few complaints, this program makes a nice diversion for kids. Palcu Drawing for Children takes a bit of time to launch, but once kids see the colorful, cheerful interface, they'll probably forget about the delay. Tykes will initially need help from Mom or Dad, thanks to the abundance of drawing tools and icons. The software is reminiscent of other painting programs, with a palette of colors, a large white drawing screen, and a number of brushes and drawing implements. Sliders let you adjust the opacity of the drawing tools, and kids can add in shapes or drop in predesigned items such as butterflies. Palcu Drawing for Children includes several background scenes and a text tool, but we didn't find a feature for creating custom colors. The sound effects and MIDI music are grating, but if you dig around, you'll figure out how to turn them off. Parents of creative children will find this program to be a satisfactory entry into the world of drawing.
