Keyboard Wizard for Windows

This interactive program is designed to help familiarize young children with computer keyboards, but it lacks guidance on proper finger positioning.

After it is launched, Keyboard Wizard takes over your entire screen with numerous exercises. There are 20 fun games, which not only teach keyboard familiarization, but also help to develop skills in spelling, rhyming, and grammar. Unfortunately, it doesn't have help files or information about proper finger positions, which is important when learning about the keyboard.

The program is easy enough to operate and responds to a key press or mouse click. In addition, it utilizes phonetics, making the program ideal for dyslexics. Each game requires only a simple answer, and you'll hear applause for correct answers and a unique sound for incorrect answers. Positive statements--such as "Good job" or "Keep up the good work"--would have been more encouraging for kids, and can be found in similar applications.

The 30-minute trial period certainly doesn't add any appeal, but nonetheless, Keyboard Wizard proved to be fairly engaging and may be a useful tool for kids looking to become more proficient with the keyboard.
