This bonsai-tree collection-management system suffers from function errors. OT2 has a dull and boring, yet easily comprehensible, tabbed interface. Though there is no help guide, adding data is intuitive and easy. The program effectively stores tree names and other details such as species, status, resellers, price, and place of origin.

The utility's flexible event fields fit most of our needs. The data is kept in the SQL standard and should be easily imported and backed up. You can print or display your information easily with the HTML export function. In addition to the missing help guide, the program suffers from a bug on an important feature. On our test machines, saving added images is disabled since the Add Picture Tab had a nonfunctioning Accept button. We also found the list of pots in the main window unreadable. This freeware program is simple and fills a niche need, but content-management systems are everywhere. We think users would find a better CMS elsewhere to manage their bonsai-tree collection.

Developer's Description

Manage and maintain your bonsai trees with their characteristics.

OT2 is a bonsai collection management software for Unix systems and windows, it helps you to manage your trees, your pots and your pictures. It keeps a list of your trees with their characteristics. For each tree, you can apply events (work done or to do, diseases, remarks and so on) or add pictures. You can get the history of a tree which presents in one page all the characteristics of the tree and lists in chronological order all the pictures or events applied to it. Trees can be managed in batch, with progressive individualization.

All your tree data can be saved to a set of HTML pages which is both a convenience for those who maintain with their trees and an insurance against loss of data, in case this software would not be maintained anymore. The data is kept in a standard format called SQL. Version 1.0.1 may include unspecified updates, enhancements, or bug fixes.
