• Compact & stand-alone

  Pros

  Small-sized, can be carried on a USB stick & can be activated on a different PC without needing to install it there.

  Cons

  View pane on a Win8.1 PC is very small & can't be expanded. The selections & entry fields are not fully visible.

  Summary

  Omziff has served me well over the years but that was when working with XP PCs. This probably needs a brush-up to make it compatible with the newer OS. I need to try a different encryptor until this gets updated. Very sorry to let it go.

  Pros

  It is small, easy to use, needs no installation, can be run from a USB flash drive, and it works. As of Feb. 22, 2009, a newer version (3.3) is available from the developer's website. This review is for version 3.3.

  Cons

  The help text does not explain the differences between the various encryption algorithms and why you would choose a particular one over another.

  Summary

  I need to keep encrypted files on portable media (CD's and USB flash drives) which can be decrypted on computers other than my own. Omziff is small enough to fit on the media with the files and can be run from the portable media without needing to be installed on the computer I am using.
