NetXedLT for Windows

This suite of programs is designed to create, modify, and run update scripts to maintain network system updates and audits, but it sports a steep learning curve. NetXedLT comes with NXEdit, and NXGetVal, which run from command line tools or small, basic interfaces. The help file touches on all three tools, but expects users to have extensive system administration experience. We wouldn't call the help file user friendly at all.

A major problem with this package is that some recommended NX applications are not included. The primary included application, NXEdit, helpfully builds the primary component of the suite: Software Distribution Files (SDFs). The reference section for this application is painfully short on examples, but attempts to explain the program by describing the commands. You'll spend considerable time testing this application with few results. With a little luck, you'll create an SDF and implement it with NetXedLT. That tool offers only a subset of the fully functional computer management utility. You may get a slight idea of how well the tool will work for you though.

It would have been helpful to include a sample SDF, but the publisher instead includes a short tutorial. Unfortunately, the tutorial assumes the user has downloaded a larger evaluation package. If you have plenty of testing time, and a strong interest in a network update and file management suite, we'd suggest you look for the full evaluation package or find a network admin who uses this suite. This demoware is too poorly documented and disabled for a good test.
