As great as it is to have tools such as Firefox and Thunderbird, backing them up can be a tedious process. MozBackup is a tiny program that makes saving and restoring all your bookmarks, extensions, and other personal settings a streamlined and stress-free experience.

The program works with Firefox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey, and Netscape on Windows platforms. It doesn't work with Firefox Portable, Sunbird, Songbird, or Flock, but for standard Windows iterations of the programs in the Mozilla suite, it's almost silly to not use this program.

Close the program you want to back up, then run MozBackup. Choose backup or restore, then the application. Select the program profile and the location to save the backup, and whether you want to password protect the file. Lastly, choose which parts of the profile you want to save or restore, which range from from e-mails and address books to extensions and history, from certificates, and passwords to bookmarks and your cache.

To back up Netscape, choose the Mozilla Suite option.

Restoring a profile works the same way, but what makes the app extremely useful is that it doesn't differentiate from a restore and a clean install. So if you've got a specific or complicated set of extensions and settings on your work machine, and merely thinking about how to transfer them makes you want to revert to using an Underwood, MozBackup should quell your fears.

If you want to move your Thunderbird and Firefox settings to another computer, this is by far the best free software for that purpose.

Pros
I have used this for many years now, it is a very easy and simple program. Backing up my Thunderbird email program has been simple and easy.
Cons
Although I am using this I am having a little problem getting it to back up my Thunderbird to a flash drive at the minute. just a glitch I`m sure.

MozBackup is a program for backing up and restoring your profiles (including your e-mails) from Firefox or Thunderbird. It may work on other Mozilla products as well, but I only have Firefox and Thunderbird installed. Start the program, tell it where you want the backup saved and MozBackup takes are of the rest. Restoring a profile is just as easy.

It did EXACTLY what I wanted with very little trouble.

Don't know of any - I've only used it twice now.

We bought a new laptop - wanted to put all Thunderbird/Gmail account info on the new laptop (three accounts). Only one address book appeared on the laptop, so.... I downloaded the MozBackup install file to the old desktop PC, installed it, ran the backup, just for emails and address books. Then I put the install file and the backup into Dropbox. On the laptop I moved the two files from Dropbox to the laptop, ran the install, and then restored the files using MozBackup. When I opened Thunderbird it was all there. Damn - that is so cool! Donate to this guy for writing such a great, free program!
Excellent Utility - works well with PostBox.

Simple and easy to use. The Password Feature is useful feature, which allows peace of mind for those who have sensitive data to protect.
Cons
Seems heavy on computer resources, which could be concern for those with poor ventilation for their computer

Pros
If you use Firefox or Thunderbird having a backup mechanism is essential - and MozBackup is just the software you need. Its simple to use, straightforward in its execution, and flawless in doing exactly what its designed to do.
Cons
None that I've discovered in years of usage.
Summary
I regularly backup my computer: from clones to mirroring software, but I trust Firefox and Thunderbird ONLY to MozBackup.
Great for backup & restores with some conditions

Pros
I have been using Mozbackup for several years. Usually, I will run a backup nightly before shutting down my computer. Restores can be successful. See cons below for some problems I had and how to fix those.
Cons
I had changed ISPs. A straight restore would bring up the old ISP info so was a pain and not useful. I needed to remove both Local & Remote Thunderbird profiles under Users, then uninstall & reinstall TB. I do reboot between these 2 actions. Allow Thunderbird to open once, shut down immediately. Now do the restore from MozBackup. Then I get correct restores including Lightning provided I stick with the same versions of Thunderbird.
Summary
Have done numerous restores using the process mentioned above. That same process above will allow you to do a restore on a different computer from the one you ran the backup on.

Pros
Great for backing up all needed information from the user profile, e-mail accounts, passwords, bookmarks, etc. No strain, no pain. Works with SeaMonkey & other Mozilla software.
Cons
Only con I can think of is not having it available for other operating systems besides Windows.

Pros
I had a very large mail file, many local folders in Sea Monkey and It backed it backed them up perfectly. Also restored Firefox with no troubles.

None found. Took a while, but I had lots to back up.

If your looking for a perfect Back-Up tool for Mozilla you've found it, this thing does everything you wanted it to do from Add-on, Extensions, Bookmarks, Cookies everything that you want to back-up from your browser it already covered.
Cons
There's no scheduled back-up service. It's not a big loss.
