Editors’ Review
Get secure surfing, file storing, and backups with this single tool, but be careful of an installation problem. Mighty Key's very simple interface primarily consists of three large buttons to invoke the main features. Each feature opens a similar basic interface. Give the program plenty of time after entering preinstallation registration information. Hit the wrong key when the installation seems frozen and you'll get an installation error. You then have to reregister under a different e-mail address. After that hiccup, most users will have no trouble quickly mastering the program's functions.
Mighty Key's file vault feature is easy to use. The application creates a secure drive where you save, delete, or open files as usual. Close the program and the encrypted files are immediately hidden. Secure surfing uses a special version of Mozilla Firefox Portable Edition. That version isn't the latest available, and fails if you attempt an upgrade. Users will lose access to any passwords saved in their primary Firefox installation as it is blocked while Mighty Key's version runs. However, surfing wasn't slowed using Mighty Key's secure proxy service. The final function makes it easy to back up to a secure off-site server. You merely chose from the typical file tree which folders to back up. The program monitors those folders and automatically encrypts a copy of any new or changed files. The copy is then sent to the off-site server. Restoring files is as automatic and painless.
There is a 100MB storage limit during the trial, and a monthly fee is required after the 60-day demo. We found Mighty Key's beneficial features easier to use than most similar applications. That makes the program easy to recommend to users of any skill level who need secure surfing and file storage.
