  If your computer is stolen, you have nothing to see.

  Summary

  Excellent addition to your home or business security, you get to use one camera for free, adding more is not expensive. The range seems to be as far as the camera can see, better camera, better surveillance. When you consider the expense of setting up similar systems Vitamin D Video comes out as a very inexpensive but effective option. Keep at it guys!

  Pros

  VITAMIN-D is the best free webcam monitoring / motion detect software I have ever tried. It works perfectly with my Logitech C200 USB webcam and a P4 Windows XP Pro PC with 1 Gig of RAM. Motion detection options are great and easy to configure.

  Cons

  The FREE version is limited to accessing only 1 webcam at a time. (Paid versions can access multiple) Sound recording is not an option, no sound is recorded in any versions even if your webcam has a built in mic.

  Summary

  This is a great product to try out if you are looking for webcam motion detect / security monitoring software. It's easy to download and setup and doesnt try to install any extra toolbars or such. The FREE version works great on its own, no limited trial period or constant hasseling to upgrade. I certainly prefer it over my latest version of the Logitech Webcam Utility for keeping an eye on my yard and recording any activity there. The best part of this program is the variety of motion detect rules that you can custom design so easily yourself that will suit nearly any security monitoring application. You can specify certain areas of the visible frame (of any shape you want) to monitor for movement. It can automatically distinguish between actual people and other stuff like blowing leaves or swaying branches without you having to fiddle with some clumsy sensitivity control like many other programs. It can even tell the difference between people passing through doorways as opposed to passing in front of them. You can also set schedules to monitor only during certain times or days. The free version saves the clips to disk automatically and can even play a sound or send you an email if you choose when one of your specified motion parameters is activated. The video quality is great even with the free version and switching back and forth between the live view and saved file search view is one quick button click. Reviewing saved clips in Vitamin-D is so easy with the built in player. The clips are very conveniently organised by days / time and motion event type so that you can quickly find and review the interesting bits you want without having to scroll through days of raw footage. The player shows a 24 hour timeline at the bottom with all the motion events clearly marked in different colors, a really neat feature. All in all, I really enjoy using this product. It performs flawlessly and it is actually FUN to watch the software perform as it tracks the movements on the screen and then classifies them as people or objects. Very TERMINATOR like lol.
