Apply various color tints to file icons and sort the files by label.
Labels X enhances Apple's file labeling features in Mac OS X. This means that, not only can you apply various color tints to file or folder icons, and sort the files by label, but also you have an option of applying color tints to either an icon or its name or both. This gives you more freedom and options in organizing your files. Additionally, Labels X shares file label information with Mac OS 9. So, no matter where you label your files - you will see the labels in both Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X (file labeling is a built-in feature in Mac OS 9).
Would like much better if author would respond to problem email.
Cons
Lack of author support.
Summary
I originally used this when I was with comcast and had a reg. number. I switch to Verizon and am no longer able to use it because the author will not respond to my request to resend my serial number that's keyed to comcast and not verizon.
Labels X v3.0 is out

Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Labels X version 3.0 is out. However, Unsanity have not yet made it publicly available. Keep an eye on their website for official release. It is Snow Leopard compatible and works perfectly. (I received it as part of the beta testing team).
Please note: The version 3 series requires an UPGRADE payment for current owners. I'm being offered â?? off the standard price. I'm gladly paying it.
My only criticism of Unsanity is, as others have indicated, they are developers who get to projects when they get to them. Their communication / marketing skills are spotty at best. They are generally very slow to catch up to new revisions of Mac OS X. Nonetheless, when they get there, their products are excellent and quite unique. Labels X is a requirement on all my Macs. No one else develops anything similar or nearly as useful.
History: Labels was a standard feature on Mac OS. It never made it into Mac OS X. Instead only file title color labeling was added. Thank you Unsanity for keeping Labels alive and available and adding further kewl features.
Could be better

Pros
The file icon as well as the label is colored making it easier to see. Colors are brighter and can be changed.
Cons
Uses just the same seven colors already built into OS X. Cannot add colors and when changing a color it changes the color of all files that previously used that color.

Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
The labels feature in OS X, with those ugly color bars that make you think you've selected an item when you haven't, have got to go. Until then, there's Labels X, a great tool I swear by. Oops -- it doesn't work with Intel Macs. Oh kind developer, could you please update this superb tool so we can have labels back the way they should be?
Love this haxie - how about 10.4 support?

Summary
This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
It is a breath of fresh air having Panther support. Every day I ran Panther, I grimaced at the new implementation of Finder labels which are nearly indistinguishable from a Finder selection hilite. I even went to the effort of reporting this visual bug to Apple with a direct explanation of how their implementation makes it easier to accidentally delete items in a multiple selection as it visually hides selection in a maze of colored text backgrounds. Apple should have left this alone. Unsanity cannot thank you enough!

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I was one of those fussin and cusin because Labels X caused the labels in my sidebar to be generic. As Unsanity said, that problem is now fixed. V1.6.1 seems to work as designed. At least so farâ?¦

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
I was very happy with the v1.6 Panther-compatible update, util I discovered a bug which causes Finder icons to disappear. After contacting support, they've confirmed this bug and are researching it. Once this is fixed, I hope to give v1.7 a great review, but this bug is a deal-breaker for v1.6. I was forced to uninstall Labels X. :(

This review was originally posted on VersionTracker.com.
Mac's OSX 10.3 came along with it's labels feature undoing Lalels X which worked only up to 10.2. Mac's labels system is awful - bold and garish. Thank goodness Unsanity came along with it's new version. I use it to color my MP3 files which I flop back and forth to my laptop which uses 10.2. It's Worth twice the price.
