We always like to try new calendar applications, because periodically we come across some really innovative programs. Occasionally, though, we come across programs like Kalendra. It's innovative, all right, but not necessarily in a good way. As the kids would say, this program is a hot mess.

Kalendra's interface is fairly similar to other programs of this type, at least as far as the layout is concerned. But it has a cluttered, amateurish feel to it. We set about trying to explore its features and were duly unimpressed. Kalendra allegedly functions as an e-mail client, but we had no luck configuring it to send or receive e-mail. It has daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly calendar views, and those all seemed to work well enough, although the weekly view seemed convinced that we were in the first week of January 1900.

We did like the fact that Kalendra lets users easily create both voice and text memos. The program's other features include a photo album, atlas, and contacts manager. Kalendra also allows users to create or purchase theme packs, which seem to be collections of photos that customize Kalendra's appearance. This is a unique feature, but not one that we particularly care about when so many of the important ones don't function as they should. The program's online Help file is really just a collection of FAQs; there's no comprehensive guide to Kalendra's use. Overall, we're not sure why anyone would choose this as their default e-mail client or calendar application. There are too many other choices that are more attractive and useful.

Kalendra installs politely but leaves a folder behind upon removal. We do not recommend this program.

Need a digital Filofax?

Summary
I used it 4 years ago on my old computer. The program is really cute, it's like a digital Filofax. I remember that some function did not work but I don't remember which ones. I especially liked the ''Photo Album'' part. After I got a new computer I was not able to install Kalendra because it is not compatible with Windows 7. Another program that looks a little bit like Kalendra is ''JOURNAL INTIME'' - by Oriasoft. It looks like a real ''dear diary'' with flipping pages.
Wonderful program. Brings all my needs into one place.

First the Norton antivirus program didn't like installing the 'freeware' and sent warning flags on two seperate occassions. If I want to add a note to a future date, I still can see the notes written on the current date. There's no help text and I think somehow you are internet-linked to the Kalendra site- which is perhaps why it's a freeware offer. Wondering if it's a spyware type of program.

I have Windows XP. Every feature of Kalendra is great, and I have been looking for a program like this for a long time. That's why I was so disappointed.
Cons
Many features of this software do not function. The on-line help site did not tell me everything, but it was fun figuring out how the program works. There is, however, another problem which makes Kalendra impossible for me to use: Once I exit the program, all of my entries are lost. To make matters worse, after I closed Kalendra I received an access violation warning which froze up my computer so badly I could not even close Windows to restart, and finally had to to shut off power to the computer. One possible explanation is an error notice I received when installing the software, however it allowed me to ignore the error and continue the installation. The same thing happened when I installed it the second time. I don't know what's wrong but if they get the bugs out, Kalendra will be truly wonderous software.

To use this program you have to set up a Kalendra account on Kalendra's website (it's free) and allow the program internet access. If you don't allow this program internet access the program will AUTO CLOSE. Which was really disappointing since I wanted to install in on a computer that didn't have internet access and just annoying for the one that did.

I really like the way it looks and the fact that it can play videos. I love YouTube and being able to import my favorite Playlist and search videos is a big plus.

Pros
On the recommendation of a friend, I checked out Kalendra and was really happy I did. This is a full-featured calendar and personal organizer which allows me to view my favorite family photos and videos each day. There are a lot of cool features and I really like the Alarm Clock.

Pros
Although I've been a faithful Outlook user, this program really rocks as it allows you import your data from Outlook and combine it with your favorite photos and videos. Plus there are a lot of multimedia-oriented features, including the ability to record voice notes and voice diary entries. Beats Outlook hands down. Best of all, it is amazing to find a calendar program like this that is free, with no trial period.

If this program had email, it would be perfect.
