This is a Power Tool - You must understand it!

Pros
- Incredibly fast creation of an entire web application framework. - Very tight integration with the back-end database. - Can connect to just about any of the popular DBMS' (big and small) - You can do just abount anything you'd want with this tool - You can add any number of third-pary ASP.NET controls (I use obout.com tools) - Generates well-structured (maintainable) code - Flexible licensing (love the monthly sub - no obligations!). The monthly lets you cancel your sub during times that the app is static, and license back up when you need to mod the app.
Cons
- Steep learning curve once you get past the basics (unless you're a .net whiz...) - Proprietary, compiled DLL(s) that requires ISD in order to generate it. - Sometimes ISD generates too many screens from your database - it tries to be predictable, but sometimes goes a bit overboard with the relationship mapping.
Summary
I've been developing systems for over 30 years. I've not seen a tool that can do as much (out of the box) as ISD, yet leaves you with all your options open for customization and integration of other ASP.NET components. I especially like the ability to use other data grid and graph controls (among others) in the tool (obout.com data grid is very nice). In short, this tool saves me weeks *literally* of time in getting applications in front of clients. Don't know of another tool out there with this much power. And no, I have not been paid, or otherwise compensated by ISS in any way to write this review. I do so freely and voluntarily.

Good product, interesting end result, good interface
Cons
Only generates on Microsoft platform, licensing modules dials back home and reports on usage. Spying software, just what you need. Once you adopt the product, the generated code is so complex that you are basically stuck with the paying the product forever. The company actually cancelled our license because me and my associate both used it on the same machine with two different user accounts. We lost 1700$ in the deal. We could not get our money back. We switched to Code Charge Studio, and are now satisfied customers.

Okay nothing is perfect but you would have to look long and hard to find a company that tries harder than Iron Speed to put out the best possible product.
Summary
Iron Speed Designer is an excellent tool for development of Web 2.0 applications using the latest in AJAX technology. It can build applications over a variety of database management systems, integrate security with Active Directory (or use database roles table driven security) and turn out a professional looking, true three tiered web application in minutes. I know this for a fact as I have done it many, many times. I have watched Iron Speed Designer evolve from version 3.1 to v8.01 and have been truly impressed with the improvements in functionality as well as the wide array of features added with each new version. It is definitely worth every penny!
There is absolutely nothing out there for free.

This applicationis a easy to use non proragmer friendy development environment. It give the non-programmer a change to build a nice website.

The application rules and operations takes time to learn.
Summary
The free addition of this product is only geared at getting you prepared for the full edition. The free addition has limited options but it works. The full addition has everything. How do you expect to own such a powerful application as Iron Speed Designer without paying for it. That's really high expectations. Please name a product this powerful that is free. Not even the giant Microsoft gives you a full development environments that are free, so why do you expect Iron Speed Designer to provide a free product. Reading Contract that you are ask to accept in the second paragraph it mentions a fee and further in the contract it also mentions a contract but it is soundlng like a limit amount of times you are allowed to use it then you pay. THIS IS NOT FREE.

For many years we have used Iron Speed for custom software development on several projects of various types and sizes. The projects have been small and easily made with Ironspeed. Some projects have been really big and some of them have been hard to ?take in the whole picture? But it has been so gentle to reorganize the website even with changes in the database structure. And as most of us know ? the customers are not sure what they want.Our customers have been very pleased with our responsiveness as requirements change One another big advantage is that our customer can quickly have a website and experiment to find the right way to work in the future. We have a rapid progress and that is what our customer want. They are really impressed The interface is up to date and really nice. Very easy to translate into other languages. Our customer like the style of the the webpages and the work procedure(s). Uncomplicated and simple to learn and use. You can changes the style but there is no need for that. Some may say there is a learning curve for how to use Ironspeed, but there are so many advantages and benefits. If you want to make more ?sophisticated? solutions you have plenty of help. You can use the built in Code Customization which help you to do ?special? things with your website which not requires greater knowledge. Your imagination is the border. An other source for help is IronSpeed Technical Forums. A place where developers supporting developers. It is an open and free forum. Works really well and if you search for some or need help for some ingenious question or matter you will probably find some answer. I have notice some of you have had some problem with the licence. I have used the system which Ironspeed use for many years and it has never failed : If I change computer I just deactivate and then activate. No problem but of course you require Internet and who has not connection today? And you need to have a backup of Ironspeed if your computer will break or your hard disc / drive will crash.

Pros
Extremely stable code generation. No code is hidden or obfuscated from the developer and you can easily go in and customize all of it. The code is generated using the best possible practices and is very readable.
Cons
There is a small learning curve but that's reasonable to expect out of any product. This is not a Visual Studio replacement and it was not intended to be. Keep expectations realistic and make use of the free 14-day trial.
Summary
I'm a freelance software developer and I use Ironspeed frequently as in internal tool to build customer tracking systems, document repositories and other CMS related content. I have also demonstrated the effectiveness of this product to my customers and based upon that merit alone they've bought copies. It's a great tool for rapid web application development. The nice thing is it's constantly evolving and adding new features. This tool is an asset to just about any business. Aspects that make this product unique are that you get 100% access to non-obfuscated code. Customize it, change it do whatever you want with the generated system. There's an extensive help framework that can be downloaded, accessed by very active forums and registered users get support with most licenses.

Pros
It organically generates up to 90% complete application from a well-thought & well- designed database as its grass-root. It?s a real genius RAD that translates the database logics into a robust & elegant objects and codes.
Cons
It does not work well with rubbish database. Iron Speed magic is crippled in a topsy-turvy designed database where unnecessary customization is needed to do a simple task.
Summary
Iron speed is amazing because it accomplishes many difficult and complicated programming tasks in a simple-elegant ways. It makes programming life highly productive and enjoyable.

It does generate code from a database
Cons
Poor backend architecture. To do something as simple as seperating the dropdown list display from the value requires a function override. The SQL Statements are not accesible. The editor reloads for every single change. Randomly looses changes.
Summary
The worst is how the changes are lost when editing the form layouts. If you make any change on the screen then all of the HTML work is lost. If you add a field all of the HTML is lost. You can backup all layouts and reset the bindings but eventually it is just faster to write it yourself. I cannot stress the frustation over loosing the work on a regular basis. The archtecture is confusing and has not real documentation to speak up. They have the standard class generated documentation that does not tell you anything that you could not get from the source code. There is no class map. Support is non existent. The only reponse that you get from a support request is them asking you to send them more information. They want your schema and project file for the simplest question. You know- ask for something that is difficult to put together and hope the request goes away. They do not try to actually understand the problem. When you do take the 2 hours to write it up the only response you get is that they will have an engineer look at it and you never hear from them again so do not waste your time. Imagine having a form with tab that has multiple record views. You edit a single character and wait about 90 seconds for the entire page to reload. You then make a second change and wait another 90 seconds for the entire page to reload. Get the picture? Now you finally have your screen layed out. You think- well let me add this one field and boom- the entire page resets for some reason. The product is awful. It started referencing the Server.TableName instead of Server.Database.TableName. Lost my entire project that I have been working on for 6 weeks. THIS PRODUCT SUCKS
