  HDD Regenerator rejuvinated every bad sector on my boot drive.

  Windows XP would hardly run on my laptop. It kept dropping the ATAPI driver back into PIO mode, indicating massive hard drive errors. In PIO mode it could take many minutes to respond to a simple mouse click. I knew I needed a new hard drive, but couldn't afford both SpinRite AND a new hard drive. HDD Regenerator saved my life. It fixed all 220 bad sectors and now Windows runs perfectly. It sounded like voodoo to me, but given the hysteresis involved with magnetic media, the technique HDD Regenerator uses sounded at least plausible And it worked! A new hard drive is on the way, and I have total confidence in being able to clone my current drive. I recommed doing a scan first. It goes much faster if you boot from the CD you create (easily!) with HDD Regenerator -- this elininates all OS overhead and works directly with the hardware, regardless of what OS you are using.

  Normally this program works great, it does what it is supposed to do. It can physically regenerate damaged sectors. Which can be a life saver. However I would recommend a simple scan before you try and regenerate anything.

  Cons

  BACK UP YOUR DATA FIRST! Grea program, however, if your Hard Drive is past the point of no return, sometimes without telling you, it will try and regenerate a sector that can not be recovered and does more harm than good.

  Summary

  Software based recovery tools can only recover and help "so" much before they end up turning your hard drive in a doorstop that even the best data recovery center cant help you with. Bottom-line- DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN TO BACK UP YOUR DATA BEFORE RUNNING THESE TYPES OF RECOVERY TOOLS.

  Pros

  Easy and simple to use interface lets you launch the command prompt or burn a bootable CD (and flash drive) It does what it says it does, recovers bad sectors without harming data. (Awesome by the way) Works under Windows 7

  Cons

  You can't access the drive under Windows while it's running (so you can't scan the main disc under Windows) Might give you an error that the process can't continue under Windows and you have to use the CD method. Just restart and try again.

  Summary

  Definitely worth it. Recovered a drive that Windows said I couldn't back up on due to imminent SMART failure. Fixed everything and kept my data intact. The free version will only recover one bad sector, so its pretty much useless (other than to confirm that bad sectors are causing the problem). If you're still getting an error under Windows, run a full Scandisk on the drive you regenerated to remove any errors (Windows might still think the drive is bad). Worth it!

  HDD Regenerator has no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

  It doesn't work. Moreover it appeals to those less knowledgeable about data recovery who would like to believe that there is a magic bullet that will fix everything without using common sense- backing up data and keeping image backups. With the cost of storage at an all time low, there is no excuse for not using the strategy I just outlined, that is, replace a bad drive, install from image, and copy your data back to a downed machine. If you haven't backed up the OS, settings, and data, you can pay extravagant prices to data recovery services (pray you have a friend in the business), in which case you're still stuck with doing a clean install of your OS on a new drive. <p>This worthless app reminds me of the "memory optimizers" that transfer system memory operations to the paging file, magically freeing up system memory. <p>Save your money and buy a new drive after running the free diagnostic utilities available from your drive manufacturer and confirming that the drive really is dead.

  The layout looks simple but nothing works. I can't make a bootable CD with my Plextor 12x DVD Burner or my TDK CD burner. <p> <p>I have not try a floppy disk yet.
