Editors’ Review
Radian Simulations LLC’s Gunner, HEAT, PC! delivers a focused self-propelled artillery simulation emphasizing realistic vehicle operation and ballistics. Featuring over 50 authentically modeled armored vehicles, it provides simplified controls for both driving and gunnery alongside precise fire control, authentic optics, and detailed damage modeling in instant-action skirmishes.
Gunner, HEAT, PC! currently offers solo instant-action skirmish missions and a basic campaign mode, all enhanced by detailed After-Action Review tools that display full projectile flight paths, fragmentation, and X-ray vehicle damage breakdowns for comprehensive post-battle analysis. Developer transparency via the published roadmap demonstrates committed support and outlines planned expansions, reinforcing confidence in long-term development.
Realistic damage effects for deep immersion
Gunner, HEAT, PC! showcases over 50 self-propelled artillery and armored vehicles, each authentically modeled with period-accurate optics and fire-control systems. Combat is resolved via detailed simulation of fire control systems, ballistics, armor penetration, and post-pen effects, driven by a robust projectile flight model and research-based penetration model. A successful hit produces realistic spalling, fragmentation, and blast overpressure, wrecking crew and systems for deep immersion in instant skirmishes.
Intuitive controls use mouse-driven aiming and keyboard shortcuts for smooth traversal and turret operation. Tutorials and tooltips introduce indirect fire basics, while After-Action Review tools provide projectile path visualization, fragmentation, and X-ray damage breakdowns. In-game HUD overlays display ammunition status and objectives. A detailed replay function supports strategy sharing. However, it only has a single-player mode, and the occasional performance spikes in dense scenes can disrupt immersion.
Due to high hardware demands, strong gaming PCs are recommended to maintain stable frame rates on modern mid-range GPUs. Active developer support through frequent patches addresses bug fixes and balance tweaks, while transparency via the published Steam Early Access roadmap outlines upcoming features without compromising the current stability. Community feedback drives prioritization of enhancements, ensuring continual refinement throughout Early Access.
Pros
- Advanced ballistics simulation
- Detailed damage modeling
- Simplified controls with tutorials
- Comprehensive After-Action Review tools
Cons
- Occasional performance spikes in dense scenes
- Single-player only, no multiplayer modes
Bottom Line
Engaging solo artillery simulation experience
Realistic ballistics and damage modeling, extensive vehicle modeling, and precise fire-control systems combine in a focused self-propelled artillery simulation. Simplified controls with tutorials ease entry, while comprehensive After-Action Review tools provide deep analytical insight. Stable performance on modern systems, complemented by immersive audio-visual presentation, enhances battlefield fidelity. Occasional performance spikes and the single-player only design reflect Early Access status, but do not diminish the depth and authenticity.
What’s new in version varies-with-devices
Version: 20250522
GHPC Early Access has been updated to version 20250522. This is a regular update, introducing new features, adjustments, and bug fixes. We’ve got plenty more in the works for GHPC! As always, you can get additional info by visiting our Discord server and YouTube channel. Links are on the GHPC website.
MARDER A1 – IFV
Continuing the rollout of the West German forces, we are introducing the Marder Infantry Fighting Vehicle. This troop carrier is lightly armored but carries a rapid-fire 20 mm autocannon and a removable MILAN ATGM launcher to deal with a variety of targets. There were many versions of the Marder throughout its development history. The one we’re introducing today is the A1 minus, equipped with a non-thermal night-vision intensifier sight and an infrared searchlight for active illumination. As with other vehicles in GHPC, the searchlight is configured automatically for day or night based on mission time.
Quirks:
- The main gun turret is unstabilized – you must halt the vehicle to aim precisely.
- The MILAN launcher has no night sight; illumination flares and environmental light are required in darkness.
- The gunner’s primary optic features a ballistic compensation mechanism; reticle must be manually adjusted when changing range or ammo.
- Day-sight WFOV includes an anti-aircraft “web” reticle; NFOV removes this for standard aiming marks.
- Rear deck has an operable MG3 gun pod in reality, but it’s not yet operable in GHPC.
- The main weapon is open-bolt; switching ammo does not waste a “dump round.”
MARDER CUSTOMIZATIONS
- No ATGM variant: MILAN launcher can be removed via the customizer.
- Ammo swap: Default DM43 rounds or optional DM63 APDS for increased penetration.
NEW MISSIONS
- “Don’t Wither” parts 1–2 (Fulda Outskirts)
- “Road Not Taken” (Eastern Road)
- “Highway Patrol” (Eastern Road)
- Marder training mission (Grafenwoehr Tank Range)
