Old Reliable
totallyInept- Pros
- Simple, full featured, and it just works. Still free
- Cons
- Can't think of any.
- Summary
- I've been using Foobar for years, and I'm happy to see that it's even better now. It will play anything, any time, without hogging your system.
Simple, Easy & Effective
ADisgustingPerson- Pros
- This is the most simple and design free music player, you can find. I don't use 3rd party apps for playing MP3 files etc. but i would recommend it to others.
- Cons
- The lack of design. I'm more into huge designs. All white.
- Summary
- I think it's perfect for the simple man.
Great program! Been using it for years!
jt443- Pros
- Simple audio file playback program that stays in the background and doesn't suck up memory/CPU usage. Customizable hotkeys, which makes it all that much better. Pretty good equalizer, too. Just a trustworthy program, altogether.
- Cons
- None, really. It's not the slickest looking program, but that lack of flair is trivial at most.
- Summary
- Recommended for anyone looking for a non-invasive and humble audio playback program. Like I said, have been using it alongside iTunes for years now, after a friend recommended it to me. Solid choice.
This is suits me
jatzio- Pros
- Low memory usage. Customizable keyboard shotcut with global keys support. Simple and native user interface (it is customizable too!) Simple visualization. Useful DSP's (by your choices). Media library for organizing music collection. Album art viewer.
- Cons
- There are pitch and time alter shifting function in its DSP, but tt would be great if it has rewind function.
- Summary
- Offers effective and efficient way to enjoy your music while working. No fuss, no memory hogging!
Gets the job done easily and with little fuss
Mandopicker855- Pros
- Quick and easy setup
- Cons
- None that come to mind yet

It's Good Enough
Bighugs1965- Pros
- It has pretty good sound and is free. It uses little resources and handles large music libraries quickly and accurately. It has many plugins and the like to suite everyone's needs.
- Cons
- Learning curve is high due to lack of documentation. It's aesthetically unappealing (unless you get skins, etc).
- Summary
- I really don't know what to say about this. I guess if all you want is something that sounds good and is highly customize able, then it's good enough. There are others easier to use and with more native features and sound as good out there. Not to mention look nice and doesn't take a users pamphlet learn it. MusicBee is just one example.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on May 25, 2015<p/>BTW Carl Seagan Died In 1996.<br /><br /><span class='notifyMsg'> Updated </span>on May 25, 2015<p/>Sorry, I meant Carl Sagan.
Very Good Music Player
neplusultraomni- Pros
- Foobar is a music player, so it won't play videos, and therefore replace something like WMP or Winamp. As a music player it is very good. The sound quality is fine. This is a very lightweight player. It uses about 10,000 K of memory versus 60,000 K for WMP or Winamp. The CPU tends to run around 1% versus 5% for the other players. It does what it needs to do without slowing down your PC.
- Cons
- 1) No help files. So you have to learn by playing around with it. 2) I wish it had better DSP plugins like a crystallizer. I downloaded a DSP set of plugins, but since there is no documentation, I'm not sure what some of them do and how to configure them to see if they are worthwhile.
- Summary
- A great player for music files.
LOVE IT, SIMPLE EASY!
Edinburgh1- Pros
- Very small download. Easy interface, very basic player.Easy to use. No problems.Of course the main object is to play music and FRFEE!
- Cons
- No cons I am happy to say.
- Summary
- Been using this for my music for years and years, my last 3 laptops have never used WMP player at all. In face I have never opened WMP on this laptop ever. The interface is easy and clean, no bells or whistles, justs gets the job with playing music, with no fuss at all.
Doesn't fuck around with bullshit you don't need.
crystal_dong- Pros
- Everything
- Cons
- Makes all other players look shit
- Summary
- Player used by Carl Sagan.
Ok, But I like Many Better
DontWannaKnow- Pros
- It's really easy on system resources. It has good sound. You can manage very large libraries with it.It has an ABX plugin and volume matching functions for blind testing purposes. The latter is very useful when determining at what bit-rate a lossy file becomes transparent to the user. It's free.
- Cons
- It's really ugly. I've been told there are skins to remedy this, but it is a separate download and kind of a hassle. It sounds very nice but not any better than some others I've tried. It has a steep learning curve compared to some others also. Most good players DO, but ultimately not worth it IMHO.
- Summary
- I gave this a fair shot and find it lacking in many ways. That said, It is probably better than 80 percent I have tried. There is almost a cult following of this software, which speaks of it's efficacy. I am not a cultist and prefer to think outside the box, if you will. I prefer MusicBee and that is what I use, but Foobar is not anything to be dismissed lightly. Try it for yourself and don't listen to audiophools. You may find a dream machine, or like me just another media player in a long line of available players
