Digital camera owners, music lovers, and those who have lots of files they'd like to organize will like Flash Renamer, a batch file renaming utility that makes it easy to rename large numbers of files at once but that also does much more, such as adding or subtracting spaces, dates, characters, and other identifiers. You can even use it to alter and manage file names as you save them.

A cleanly formatted interface features a prominent preview window that displays the chosen files and folders. You can browse, search, or free select files. Optional thumbnails make it easy to see just which files you're messing with, too. Easy-to-configure presets will automatically apply conditions to certain types of files as you save them, such as saving MP3 names in Artist-Title format. There's even a Music button that gives you numerous options just for managing MP3 titles. A prominent Undo button will take you back a step before a mistake becomes permanent, which was a problem with older, less capable batch file renamers.

Flash Renamer opens quickly and runs smoothly. While loading large numbers of files or thumbnails can take some time, pressing the Escape key (Esc) instantly ends the current process and returns you to the previous screen. You can use Flash Renamer's batch renaming features to clean up your files and folders, and applying preset conditions will help you keep things neat and organized. It also very nicely asks you which icons it's allowed to install, and where, and uninstalls cleanly if you don't want to keep it. The fully functional Flash Renamer is free to try for 30 days.

Pros
The best automatic (batch) file renamer that I am aware of. Has all the features I was hoping to find in such a program, and some that are much more advanced that I would personally ever use. I have been using the software for a long time in shareware mode, as the creator of the software was kind enough to only put in a 5 second nag screen, but I am now going to purchase it because this software has served me for many years now and it is only fair.

Flashing fast, lots of features, instant preview of what you are doing, of course it supports regular expressions, presets (one preset may include various renames) - the list is endless. I have checked out many renamers.
Cons
The outside window is resizable. The filename panel (right) and columns are also resizable. However, the rename panel (left) is fixed. In case of a very long, complex rename-string, the string may not be displayed in full: the box may be too small.
Summary
Forget the free stuff - this definitely is the best there is! You won't regret the small fee.

Developer has been asked for Unicode support and he refuses to listen. So the developer will not provide any requested feature. This one has been requested for years now. It is useless without Unicode support.

This is a much better option for mass renaming of files than most other programs out there. The only other competitor to it, in my opinion, is the freeware (and now-defunct) Lupas Rename, but Flash Renamer is considerably better. Of course, it is not free, but its authors have kindly only added a nag screen as a shareware limitation, in case you need more time to decide, which is laudable.

Flash Renamer is by far the most flexible of all. It is extremely fast, has an impressive set of features and above all much more intuitive than any other renamer. Apart from that RLVision has a splendid e-mail-support.
Cons
It runs fine under Windows 7, also under 64bit. However, under Windows 7 64bit, the context menu items are missing that are available under the 32bit versions of Windows.
Summary
After comparing many file renamers (both pay- and freeware) I can only but conclude that this renamer outperforms, in speed and flexibility. It has a wide range of options and settings. In the very rare event that you are still puzzling on some exotic rename job, well, contact rlvision and they will be happy to help you out. All this for a small registration fee of usd 19.95 !

After looking and trying many different programs, Flash Renamer has all the functionality that I was looking for, and even adds a lot of stuff that I never thought existed, but is very good.

Has way to many options to rename files. You can define custom profiles u use regularly, or batch sequencing profiles, i.e. script rename sequences on a folder. Command line based too (I requested this feature and was added back in 2004 or so)

none I can think off. Worth every penny I paid.
Summary
Kicks ASSS!!!! man I have been using it for years now and it has not let me down....Today I worked on some MP3 renaming folders etc , Parts, profiles, previews, UNDO , tons and tons of features, Just Plain Awesome. I paid for it in 2003 and it has been worth every penny.
