Editors’ Review
At first glance, this file encryption programs features look pretty standard, but a further look revealed extensive encryption options. All of them worked well, but we were turned off by the constant nag screen.
Encryptafile's main user interface is pretty basic. It includes a drop-down menu for selecting a task, a place to enter your password, and a search field to locate your source file. The Options menu is where it's happening with this program. From there, you can choose your encryption method (Rijndael or TwoFish), encryption mode, key size, and even the hashing and padding method. The file compression feature lets you choose what file attributes you want to include or exclude. The signature feature lets you generate random public and private key pairs. As soon as we entered our password and clicked Go, we were met with a nag screen asking us to register the program. Still, we were able to successfully encrypt files. Decrypting the file involved again entering our password, and worked every time.
A decent Help file is included with Encryptafile, but experienced users will get the most from this option-filled program. After uninstalling the program, we had to manually remove a leftover file, but this is still a program worth trying.
