Editors' Review
Improve system security with this tiny executable freeware, but prepare to spend some time configuring shortcuts. After installation, double-click DropMyRights and you'll see a command window flash open and close. Don't worry, you only missed a short help screen listing the program's three options. The application doesn't have an interface since it isn't something you run by itself.
The beauty of this utility is you can log on as an administrator, and still lock down select applications. DropMyRights literally drops the rights of an application from unrestricted to normal, constrained, or untrusted. It neither adds overhead nor slows down your applications. It simply blocks them from performing certain security-breaking functions.
To use DropMyRights, you will need to spend some time creating shortcuts to your browsers, instant messengers, and other programs. Each shortcut loads DropMyRights with the full path to the selected program as an argument. Novice users may have difficulty with that step at first, but should pick up the method quickly.
Some inexperienced users may find this program frustrating at first, but intermediate users to advanced users will quickly pick up using DropMyRights. It efficiently performs a much needed security function.
