  Well the biggest is it doesn't work. Unorganized and chaotic interface and worse execution. It's a shame I was really pulling for the program because it looks like a good idea.

  Summary

  Unfortunately just about everything the negative reviews say is true. Difficult to use even if you follow the directions. Numerous errors in the process of trying to create the bootable media. A lot of jumping through hoops. After about 40 minutes of carefully following steps, trying to figure out the numerous error messages and jumping back and forth between pop up dialogue boxes I finally got my DVD burned. Pop it in and it doesn't even boot. *Sigh* Back to the drawing board. Yeah it may be free but all you're getting here is free junk.

  Pros

  Although I did not purchase this specific product, the DiskInternal product family has ABSOLUTELY NO pros about it.

  Cons

  EVERYTHING. The DiskInternal product I purchased did not perform. I completely lost my file. There is virtually no product help screens available even after purchasing ...and when you run into problems, this company offers NO support.

  Summary

  DO NOT GIVE THIS COMPANY ANY OF YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY. After a month of email discussions (no phone support offered), their 'technical support' has only resorted to finger pointing and casting blame. They have offered NO support to attempt to recover the file and will not consider refunding any money. Actual quotes from 'support' email: "Did we say that we offer phone support?" "Now your lost files are unrecoverable because they're overwritten with the parts of the files you've tried to recover. There is no reason for refund because it's you who made your files unrecoverable by ignoring our warning message. " ""You are about to restore file(s) to the same partition it was erased from, which is not recommended" It was not recommended - but you wanted to risk, now you see what it caused."

  Requires huge download and and subsequent burning of downloaded image onto DVD and then us of the DVD to make the boot disc. Instructions are ambiguous and misleading.

  Summary

  I'll give it a shot once I have a DVD burner. Poor description, poor instructions, and no explanations.

• It may be a demo but...

  Pros

  The program is and excellent demo of what it is capable of. STILL USABLE: It will allow you to EXIT to DOS.

  Cons

  It would be nice to have a one day trial to work with the FULL program so one decide if they want to spend the $$ for further use. Could be done just by registering it with time trial embedded.

  Summary

  It allowed me to access a non-bootable drive and make repairs. This of this DEMO program saved my bacon in a very short time after other boot media failed. It took a lot of time for someone to develop, so please don't complain if it is not freeware.

  None. Nada. No redeeming value. Zero. Useless.

  The download was "DiskInternals Boot CD 1.2 DEBUG_VERSION ! NO_..." not version 1.1. Further, even though there was an option for Windows XP Home or Professional, it proceeded as if Vista had been selected. Why is CNET offering DEBUG software?

  Summary

  The CNET entry is mislabeled, and misleading, if other commenters are correct that this is a Demo program and not an actual free working program. However, I could not get far enough into the program to know what it is.

  Pros

  Waht I like about this software is that it is the only one that allowed me to get into my windows XP system, even though I could not boot up to it. With Active boot disk I was able to determine why I couldn't but to my Laptop.

  Cons

  I was unable to delete the bad partition and reformat it.

  Summary

  The bottom line is that I was able to determine the cause of my laptop problem and it is repaired and working fine now.

  Don't bother creating the CD. You will land with all those wonderful Diskinternal programs in DEMO mode!! This is NOT FREEWARE - just a demo.

  Summary

  Nothing free here! Just a demo, encouraging you to buy the real thing. Please classify this correctly as 'Demo', not "Freeware'.

  Don't know. Might be pretty good if you don't mind downloading an extra gigabyte of stuff that you otherwise would not need to get it to work.

  Cons

  You have top download a 992 MEGAbyte Vista AIK for this software to work. That's ridiculous. Why not just give the option of going with XP instead of Vista? I tried downloading what the installation software said was required from the developer's website, but that still wasn't enough. The program wouldn't get beyond a certain point unless I downloaded the 992 MB AIK from Microsoft. Without a help file with the program or on the author's website, you will be left scratching your head when all is said and done. It's much easier to go to the author's website and download the completed iso file at 109 megabytes than it is to download the 992 MB and build it yourself. Makes no rational sense.
