Disk Checker is a full-featured disk diagnostics and repairs tool with backup ability. This program runs under Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP/Vista. Disk Checker includes two separate methods of disk checking: using file-access or direct access to disk surface. The direct access method is much faster and is perfect for large number of small files. Disk Checker can report defective sectors numbers as well as the file name they belong to. Removable (floppy, ZIP, ORB, JAZZ, etc), hard and CD-ROM disks are supported when using direct access method. For above cases as well as for remote disks, RAM disks and network drives you can also use the file-access method. You can use this program for backup purposes as well. Disk Checker can create disk images compatible with disk image files produced by other disk copy utilities(Diskcopy, WinImage, DiskDupe, etc). Disk image is a file that contains all the disk data, such as boot sector, files and folders structure. It is possible to read and write disk images and format disk, including burning CD-ROM image .ISO files. Command line, logging and dedicated item in Windows shell context menu are supported.

Version 3.3 adds ability perform surface scan for non-admin users.

I am looking for a hard drive repair app because I have a drive that is going bad, and I would like to get it going long enough to create an image. It gives read errors, programs won't load properly, and the system will freeze during a copy. Ghost says there are sector errors which matches the symptoms. Windows 7 64 bit claims there's nothing wrong with the drive (scanning it using an external SATA hard drive case). So, I went looking for better utilities, and I downloaded Disk Checker. It says exactly what Windows says. In fact, it has all the exact same options and features that Windows has, which leads me to believe that it's just taking Windows pre-made apps and putting them in a new GUI. If this had of come up with at least one error, I would have thought differently, but again it takes about a minute to scan a 500GB hard drive and claims it's in perfect working order. Just don't waste your time, download something else.
Good, but seems only like a shell of the Windows Chkdsk

the program doesn't work on my system! After installing this on my pc and i know that this is the first time i installed it (my pc: 1.6GHz, 512 RAM, 60 gb h-disk, win-sp2), i tried to run the program and is says that my license has already expired! I haven't even seen the main program screen for even a millisecond and it tells me that my license is already expired?!?!!?! <p> <p>This is surely the most worthless thing i have dloaded off the net. Plainly a waste of time.

Do not use this version, nor the updater. Goto the website ,get the latest version, download and run. No access violations with win2k pro.

Handling remote media is not always supported by diskchecking software, due to accountmanagement and such. But this tool just starts enumerating maps and files and starts working - well, check it out for yourselfs
