Directory Tree List Maker is a software that will be able to output as a text file the list of all files from a selected directory. This software uses a recursive method to display contents of all sub directories. All information about each file and directory is generated: size in bytes, date/time marker (creation, last access, last write), and attributes. Many options help to customize output: selectable columns, path depth, name length, file content display File and directory ACL exceptions (access control list) are supported. Pros
Downloaded this and ran it without a glitch. Really straight forward and easy to use.
Cons
Properly identifies a directory, but identifies a file by the term "Archive". A little confusing, but easy to modify in any word processor, if that matters.
Summary
For a simple text listing of everything in a directory, including subdirectories, this is the program to use. I like how straight forward and easy it was to use, including the ability to manipulate many of the fields under Options to get the exact output I wanted.
Useful as t_ts on a bull.

Pros
Small, easy to install and uninstall.
Cons
Not much functionality beyond a simple dir /s in a command prompt. No filtering of files for name or path substrings, no options to create tree like or full path outputs, etc.
Summary
Not worth the time.

It gives you the option to create lists (reports) with or without things like file size, date modified, etc.
Cons
While it does list everything, it is not in true tree format (does not list subfolder contents with the subfolder name). Lists are all separate & not related. It would take me hours to move lists to Excel, then move chunks of file names to their proper spots in the tree.

Pros
I don't know why we should be surprised when a program actually does what it supposed to, but these days, it seems to happen all the time. Anyway, this little stand alone app does exactly what it should: you pick a directory, and it generates a text file, listing the directories contents, with file sizes, extensions, and so on. You can then print the file with notepad, or just save it for reference.
Cons
None. Zero. Zip. Nada. Zilch.

I am an senile old man, been on the net since the steam age and still don't understand it but I needed something simple (just like me) to list all of my files and this software does just that. <p>It takes just a few seconds to download and install. It's Free (at the moment) but worthy of a good fee I reckon. It's easy to use and understand, just what we oldies need. I think every computer should have this pre-installed as it's such a useful tool and helps you manage your files in such a manner you just can't go wrong, No, even I understood it, so you'll have no problems at all. <p>I rate this simple but effective little tool highly and suggest you get yours before its author realises he/she can make a lot of money by selling it. I love it, I think you will too. Download your copy now, you'll be glad you did. This is another Download.com first!
