• Works, but outdated

  Summary

  Claws isn't all bad, but it is antiquated. It is like working with Eudora, from 1999. Setting up new accounts is a complete pain. All info must be put in manually, unlike, for instance, "Dream Mail," that is a snap. Once you set up a new account, it will not create an Inbox for said account. I got frustrated with trying to play with the setup, and opted for a far better client. Try Dream Mail, or Post Box Express. They are both a snap to set up, and practically fill out info on gmail accounts automatically.

• Potentially excellent, but flawed

  Pros

  Sorting, filtering and processing and speed are it's strong points. Otherwise it has an intuitive interface that should be familiar to users of Outlook Express.

  Cons

  I discovered that when installed Claws Mail on my Windows 7 system it's ability to download from the server was erratic. Sometimes a progress bar would show mail being downloaded, but nothing appeared in my mail box. I foolishly set the time to erase mail from the server to 0 days and lost some of my emails because of this shortcoming. Sometimes the GUI freezes when you open a configuration dialog box and you have to use the task manager to unfreeze it. Setting up a new mail box for a second account has to be done manually and it can be tricky. If you don't do this all the mail from both accounts will end up in the same mail box.

  Summary

  Maybe on a Linux machine this would be an excellent email client, but for me it is so badly flawed I have to uninstall it and use something like Thunderbird instead.
