• Had to give up and use a different product

  Pros

  On paper, CD-Lock seems great. Simple interface, fast, and with the added bonus (which I needed) of decrypting every file at once as opposed to individually when clicked on: good if you need to have say an exe load other files (external swfs, etc.).

  Cons

  Discs will unlock, working as advertised. But the only way to view the content is to right-click on the disc and select open. If you double-click on the disc, you're asked what program you want to use to open the "file." Unacceptable for clients.

  Summary

  Would have given this product more of a chance, but I was under a deadline, and the support from the company was singularly unhelpful. Lots of "Not sure" and "I don't know" without any requests for clarification that would have helped to narrow down the problem. Got the impression of a bored teenager on the other end of our email exchange.

  Good "con"cept.

  Cons

  Extremely buggy product that would not work with my USB drive. Spent over 3 hours and numerous emails back and forth but they could not solve the problem. DO NOT BUY. Try open source based "True Crypt" instead that has recieved great reviews from others.

  Pros

  Scrambling of file names. Being (theoretically,) able to open file from disk.

  Cons

  Whichever way I used it with DVDs it was terribly slow. Much slower(for example) than zipping and encrypting with Stuffit. There are also problems with InCD and Nero. It crashed my system (twice)when I first tried using it with InCD, and told me my CD-Locked Nero file was already open, when it, quite palpably, was not.

  I had only had one problem at first: the CD writing wizard on WinXP didn't want to work with this program at first. I restarted my computer and It hasn't given me a problem since. It does just what it says and makes it very simple.

  Program works just great! But just as noteworthy is the author/tech support ... I had a seeming problem with CD-Lock (wouldn't start up, seeming after upgrade; gave me error message). Tech support acted immediately on my request for help and although it took several e-mails back and forth to solve the problem, there was no hesitation to help me fix what proved to be a problem on my computer! (caused by me). Thumbs up from me!!

  It is reassuring to be able to put important but sensitive files and folders onto a CD-ROM that can then be stored safely offsite, knowing that the data on the CD-ROM cannot be read by anyone else. A great product!
