Editors’ Review
This freeware executable simply explains the beep error codes given when your system won't start. Beeping Bios Codes uses a tabbed interface to list and describe IBM POST codes, AMI BIOS, and Phoenix BIOS beep codes.
Anyone can operate this basic application. Select which of the three codes you want to check. Click on the beep code, and the program displays a very simple but helpful result. The results either explain the problem causing the beeps, or offer a solution. Unfortunately, that solution is often simply replace the motherboard. We would have liked to see better explanation of the causes of the IBM POST codes. The Phoenix BIOS beep codes are also often short one-line answers that simply inform you that the motherboard must be replaced. We found the AMI BIOS result codes more detailed, and offering more extensive repair help.
Of course, this program can't help you if it is on the system experiencing the boot failure. However, it's easy to carry on your USB toolkit. It doesn't need installation, and uses little system overhead. There's no method to print out this information, though. The information this freeware provides is basic and easily understood by users of any experience level.
