This utility allows you to automate shutdown of your computer, but that's the only feature it offers. The simple interface has a box to input hours until shutdown, and three buttons for start, canceling, and quitting. Barry's Sleep Timer gives you a 30-second warning to allow you to save any opened file or process before your PC shuts down. Unfortunately, you can't input a shutdown time of less than one hour or password-protect the program, which would make it a feasible option for child control. To make matters worse, the application only runs on Windows XP. This freeware utility is suitable for users of all skill levels but isn't likely to knock anyone out.

To the genius above who wrote the review in all CAPS, do you not have any idea what a Sleep Timer on a TV does? You set it so if you fall asleep while watching, the TV goes off. While speaking in terms of computers "sleep" may have a slightly different definition, it might be wise to think before you type. If you expect this program to do anything other than turning your computer off if you're watching something or listening to music, then you should probably brush up on your reading skills as well. So in summary, hats off to whoever created this and thank you. Sometimes the simplest ideas make our lives alot easier! :)

worked for a while. Accidently entered up arrow in hour entry and wouldn't count right. reinstall didn't help. File permanently corrupted on this machine.

For all of the idiot reviewers that gave this program less than 5 stars obviously forgot the name of the program they were reviewing. It's a SLEEP TIMER. It's NOT for just automatically shutting down your PC whenever you want and YES, there is a difference. All of the negative reviews are from people that want to download a large file and not have to sit in front of their computer and wait for it to finish. They want to start the download and walk away and have Barry shut their computer down for them. THAT is why they are complaining about not being able to shutdown in less than an hour. THIS is why Barry specifically named it a S L E E P timer cause when you are truely expecting to fall asleep, you are casual about when your pc shuts down cause you really don't know when you will fall asleep so one hour, two hour.....it shouldn't matter because when you are using Barry's program you are using it right before you go plan on sleeping. Please, if you plan on reviewing ANY program, the most important thing is that you use it properly. Review this program after you wake up to find out that your pc had successfully shut itself off after you feel asleep. It's a tiny, dink program that does exactly what it does for the right person which is anyone that is about to fall asleep with their pc stil on and they want it to automatically shut itself down by itself while you are sleeping. If you are not this person than don't spend the 3.5 seconds it takes to download this FREE program (took me longer to type this review). Most importantly don't come here to trash a perfectly good program because you don't want to use it the way it was meant to be used.

This software is a sleep timer. It turs off your computer in the amount of time you specify, like on your TV. It does not make you a sandwich, and it doesn't mow your lawn, but it doesn't make a promise to. I don't know what some of the other people didn't like, it does what it needs to do.

Very unusable interface, we cant set the countdown time with step less then 1 hour! <p>Too ascetic interface. <p> <p>Here -- cc.x2plastic.com we can find something much better, you need only click to start the timer and set up 2 parameters! incredible!
