It's hard to tell if registry defraggers and cleaners work, but the Auslogics Registry Defragger looks good. It's hard to gauge if these programs are effective because once you're done using them, you'd need more than a mere store-bought machine with store-loaded programs to judge CPU speed.

When you run it, it tells you that it will perform a registry analysis, after which you will be able to review its registry report, and once that's done with you can run the registry optimization, requiring a reboot to defrag and compact the registry. It's a fairly serious program, and once you begin the analysis it won't let you move the mouse outside the program window. It also "strongly recommends" that users close all other programs while it runs, although this is a standard warning for registry-cleaning apps.

An expected change in clock speed or other performance benchmarks never materialized. Resource-intensive Internet browsers and e-mail clients may be piggish, but they're necessary and don't load any faster or slower than normal after running the reg defrag. Until a registry defragger or cleaner can demonstrate benchmarkable improvements to a computer, they'll be little more than 21st century snake oil.

Literally nothing but a scam effort.

It's at least a really obvious scam.

The scanner actually found no registry issues on my PC, so I didn't notice anything fishy at first. It was only afterward, while glancing at other user reviews, that I opted to tell it to do a full system state check and see what it said. Sure enough, it comes up with 5,500+ "privacy issues" and "speed issues" and all the "More details! :D" links do nothing but take you to a page where you can buy one of their premium services. Given it didn't even have an option to perform a registry defrag in the first place, I'm forced to conclude that the sole purpose of the free program is to fool the gullible into thinking they have crippling PC issues. These are probably the same people who failed to notice that the basic installation also installs multiple browser toolbars and at least two other "one step from malware" programs at the same time (which is why all the sane people learn at a young age never to accept anything other than "custom installation" with all other boxes unticked).
Summary
It's a completely pointless program that exists only to scam the gullible into buying their premium package after generating a ton of false errors. I can only assume this wasn't always the case since CNET usually doesn't endorse programs this bad, and it's been around since like 2008. If it was ever useful, that's no longer the case. It's always a nice red flag when the installed program folder doesn't even have an "Uninstall" button and you're forced to remove it through the control panel instead.

Ignore Auslogic's products. The one you get here is not a defrag utility. It's one of those come-ons that runs for a moment, points out all these terrible issues with your computer, then offers you the chance to fix them all with the click of a button. And guess what? It's just like the rest: the only way to fix these "issues" is by buying premium services and programs. I have no idea where these positive reviews come from (I suspect the posters were paid) because the defrag utility they're referencing is not available with the file I downloaded from CNet.

I got this to see if it was better than CCleaner, but it MADE MY COMPUTER REALLY SLOW after use. The windows startup sound plays really late, the computer has a slow startup. My games and internet browser takes ages to start. This has ruined my computer and I can't seem to fix it. 1.8% speed increasE, WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP

Shows real benefits when I have used it to cure sluggish machines that have had years of build up of software installs/uninstalls and large amounts of file additions/removals. After cleaning the drive and registry, run this program and things do take off. If your system is running well then no, you won;t see much of a difference. Very good after doing serious house cleaning of a drive/system.
Cons
None really, Auslogics makes a good product and are very straightforward if it is bundled with another program to help compensate for this being free. Easy opt out of any "offers".
Summary
Recommended for bring back to life slow machines that have had some serious hard disk cleaning and program removals.

Summary
I've installed it on my cousins' computers because they don't like paying for software and actually had a bad experience with a paid registry cleaner at one time. Use this program with registry cleaner from Auslogics and it will replace any paid registry tool out there. Never a problem using this software, it's very safe.

Does not break things, which is a bonus with registry tools it seems. Gets the registry compacted after cleanups, perfect for us neat freaks.
Cons
This used to be part of BoostSpeed, now I have to get it as a separate tool. Wish they'd return it there.
Summary
The last version does include a third-party software offer, which I see with a lot of programs these days, especially the free ones. Unlike some other installers, Auslogics makes it easy to see that it's an additional offer and you actually have to click Accept to accept it. Gotta respect that.
